Page 5 of Rejected Mate

Blood and fists flew. Rage bubbled up in my chest until all the wolves raced out the door.

Footsteps sounded behind me from the bedroom.

I swung around, claws extended, and ended up facing a young woman.

Her eyes were sharp and blue as she looked at me with a mixture of disbelief and fear.

A wolf bitch.

Had she been with Fagua and hurt her? I grabbed her by the throat and shoved her against the wall. I pressed my forearm against her neck, cutting off her air. "Who the fuck are you? You've got three seconds to tell me or you die along with your wolf pups here."

Before I could do anything else, Fagua punched my shoulder.

"I won't let you hurt her!" Fagua barked, punching my shoulder again. Her hand was small, but her punches stung. I froze, feeling the heat of her anger.

I stopped. My chest ached at the horror in Fagua's gaze. She thought I was going to kill a female?

I stared down at the woman panting in front of me. Tears glistened in her eyes. She smelled of wolf and something else, but I couldn't place it. It felt like something dead, but that wasn't possible.

Shame and guilt pooled in my gut. I let her go, taking a step back.

The woman let out a gasp, her hands flying to her chest, and she leaned against the wall like it was the only thing supporting her.

"It will be all right," Fagua said. "Don't be afraid. We mean you no harm."

"What the fuck is going on?" I asked, the adrenaline from the fight still surging through me. "Where are Sky and Winter?"

"They went looking for you." Fagua crossed her arms over her chest. She was barefoot and only wore a button-down shirt that hit her knees. Her shirt gaped open, showing off a flat, smooth belly and the creamy color of her breasts. My cock jerked at the sight.

"And they left you here unprotected?"

"I can take care of myself."

She raised her chin in defiance, and I had the sudden urge to put my mouth on hers, to taste it, to kiss away whatever was pissing her off so much.

"Right. You'd have been wolf mincemeat if I hadn't shown up." When I saw my brothers again, I was going to punch them both for abandoning her. They're all about her being their mate.

I wanted her too, but I wouldn't share her.

My lips twisted at that thought. How the hell was I supposed to share her with my brothers?

She's Fagua. She's not just some girl who wants to be kissed.

I clenched my fists to keep from putting my hands all over her, from stroking that soft-looking skin until she moaned and writhed beneath me.

"You're not going to hurt me?" the woman asked, giving me a wary glance.

I frowned, my wolf snarling in my chest. "Who are you? And what the fuck are you doing here?"

She raised her chin. "My name is Mayia. I was sent here to speak with you."

I stepped in front of Fagua, putting myself between her and the girl. "About what?"

"I'll speak to Fagua alone."

"I'm not going anywhere," I said.

I glared at the girl with her pale skin and dark eyes with matching hair. I didn't like her scent. Dead-like. There was only one creature who smelled like that—a fucking vampire. I'd only been in the presence of one and then I'd ripped him to death.
