He marches up to me and backhands me across the face. The taste of copper fills my mouth as I fall hard to the bed while I try to gain my bearings. The mother fucker hit me!
A ruckus breaks out behind me as Gabe's curses fill the room. When I roll over to see, Gabe head-butts the officer, making his nose gush blood down his chin.
"I will fucking kill you if you touch her again!" Gabe screams.
"Threatening an officer, huh? Another mark on your record, Price. Get them out of my sight!" He tells the other officer who complies like a scared puppy.
Gabe refuses to move, dragging his feet as the officer tries to push him out the door. The mean officer who hit me comes over and grabs my arm before he pulls me along toward Gabe and the other officer.
“You two won’t get away with this!” Gabe bellows.
The asshole holding onto me chuckles. “We already have, you little prick.”
I stare down at his name tag, remembering his last name for when I do everything in my power to take him down.Mendez.Yeah, keep talkingMendez, because it will only be a matter of time before you’re put behind bars with the men and women you put there. You won’t be laughing then, will you?
We make it out to the parking lot where two squad cars with flashing lights await us. Gabe is pushed to the opposite car that I’m dragged to and my stomach twists into knots. They’re separating us and panic begins to set in.
Fuck, why did Gabe answer the door without looking out first?
The mean officer grabs his radio on his shoulder and speaks into it. “We’ve got an 11-41 at Motel 6 off of highway 73. I repeat, 11-41.”
I know he’s calling someone for Marcus but I don’t want anyone to come fix him. Let him bleed out and die there for all I care. He deserves to die a painful death in his own pool of blood.
“Where are you taking him?” I snap at him as I nod toward Gabe.
“That’s none of your concern.” He opens his door and tries to shove me in, but I fight him every inch of the way. “You fucking cunt!” He knees the back of my legs and shoves me into the back before my face slides across the hard seat.
I cry out as I crawl the rest of the way in, feeling my heart as it’s about to beat out of my chest. This can’t be happening. I’m seriously going to freak out. What are they going to do with Gabe? What are they going to do with me?
But before anything else can happen, Kurt’s familiar vehicle whips into the parking lot and blocks the officers from being allowed to leave. He jumps out of the driver’s seat and storms toward the squad car.
I can just barely hear with the door shut, and Kurt doesn’t sound happy at all.
“I demand you release those two at once! Who the hell do you think you are? You have no right!” Kurt screams.
The asshole cop laughs, shaking his head. “I have all the rights in the world, asshole. Back up before I detain you as well.”
Kurt guffaws. “You can’t detain me. I’m their attorney and that…” he pauses as he turns toward the black SUV with dark windows that pulls in, “is Agent Biggs. If you value your job in the slightest, you’ll release them right now.”
The officer stares Kurt down like he wants to kill him. Without another word, he crosses his arms over his chest and makes it obvious he isn’t going to release us anytime soon.
I watch as the man from the SUV gets out. He looks as official as you can get. For the first time in days, I feel hope.
He flashes the officer his badge while his face doesn't change. It’s obvious he’s either pissed off or just a hard ass.
"I'm Agent Biggs and Kurt here has informed me thatyoushould be under arrest. Release Mr. Price and Mrs. Price immediately."
They stare at each other for the longest time before the asshole moves and lets me out. He doesn't make a move to release Gabe but I know it’s only a matter of time before he does.
The cuffs still dig into my wrists but the excitement and adrenaline coursing through my veins keep me from focusing on the pain. I look over my shoulder and see into our room where Marcus still lays lifeless on the motel floor. Is he dead? God, I hope so.
Agent Biggs looks down at the officer's badge. "Conner Mendez, you're under arrest for bribery and police misconduct.”
"What?! You can't arrest me! I'm an officer of the law!"
Biggs laughs. "Not anymore you're not."
Another black official SUV flies into the parking lot, and a male and female agent jump out. They storm toward us as Biggsnods at the two officers. They nod back and get to work, cuffing the two men as they shout and fight to get free.
