My heart’s about to fucking burst. Being Gabe’s is the only thing I’ve ever truly wanted, and it’s closer than ever. I’ll give my life to this man happily, and when I see the metal ring on his finger that will make him mine forever, I will probably faint.

He’s about to kiss me again when a knock at the door freezes us both to our spots. My heart sinks to my stomach as the little hairs on the back of my neck stand up on end. I immediately think it’s Marcus, turning my worried gaze to Gabe’s as we silently stare at each other. Very slowly, he stands from the bed and walks to the door before he tries to peer out the hole.

After a moment, he unlocks the door and cracks it open. I can’t see a thing around Gabe’s stature as I hold my breath and almost wait for the inevitable, but it never comes.

“Are you Gabriel Price?” A man’s voice inquires, making the hairs on my arms poke straight up as a chill runs down my spine.

Fuck, this is it, isn’t it? Marcus found us and Gabe’s about to get arrested… again.

“I’m Kurt Lubbock, your mother’s attorney. May I come in?”

Chapter thirty-seven

Gabe

Abreath leaves my lungs in a rush as I open the door wider, allowing him to come in. My instincts tell me to ask for his identification and that's exactly what I do before he fully steps inside the room.

"I assure you I am who I say I am." He holds his wallet up, letting me see his driver's license.

Yep, he’s Kurt Lubbock, but something doesn't sit right.

"How'd you know where to find us?"

He looks between Bentley and me, making me even more nervous. I’ll rip this asshole's head off before he can make a move and hurt either one of us. Every muscle in my body tenses as I get ready to fight if need be. Being in prison hardened me, and I’m not afraid of anyone.

"There's an APB out on that fancy Jeep you've got parked right outside the front door of your room. It was easy to spot being that you're on the main highway. I'd park it out back if I were you."

The blood drains from my face as I look over at Bentley. I never would have thought about that or even the possibility of it being reported stolen again. Fuck!

I pull my phone out and call my mom right away, staring at the strange man in front of me as she answers.

"Gabe! Is everything okay?"

"Everything's fine, Mom. Do you know who's standing at my door right now?"

She sighs. "Oh, did Kurt find you? I knew he would, and I told you he was a good lawyer. You can trust him, Gabe."

And that's all my mother has to say to immediately calm me down. I continue to stare him down as I say goodbye to her, shoving my phone back into my pocket. Bentley’s sitting on the bed looking a bit confused.

“This is Kurt Lubbock. My mother’s attorney,” I tell her as I shut the door, locking it behind me.

He shakes Bentley’s hand before he shakes mine. I’m excited he’s here, but there is still a part of me that knows no matter what we do, Marcus will win. He has too much money and too many important people in his pockets.

“Your mother tells me you took photos of some information regarding Marcus Price, is that true?” Kurt asks, setting his fancy leather briefcase down on the small round motel table in the corner. “If we’re going to build a case against him, I need all the damning information you can get. He’s a tough nut to crack, but I’ve done it before.”

Bentley nods at me, and I know she’s indicating the phone in my pocket. Without hesitation, I grab my phone out, bring up the photo gallery, and hand it over to Kurt.

He takes a seat at the table, scrolling through the photos with a scowl on his face. My heart is going crazy as I watch him. I need to know what he’s thinking!

"Hmm, and this is all you have?" Kurt finally asks as he looks up at me.

"There was another lock box but we didn't have time to open it," Bentley blurts out.

Fuck! There was another lock box! I’ve completely forgotten about it. I just hope that what we gathered is enough because I won't go back there, and I sure as hell won't let Bentley.

Kurt looks through the photos again, jotting down stuff on his legal pad as he scrolls.

"Well, this is definitely a start. I'd love to get my hands on the other content, but I can work with this."
