Lorenzo takes my hand and helps me into the cabin. It's spacious and completely decked out with modern furnishings, and it looks more like a living room than anything else. There's a large flatscreen TV, a couch that looks like it would be more at home in a five-star hotel, and a fully stocked bar.

"Wow," I breathe, taking everything in. "This is amazing."

"I'm glad you like it," Lorenzo says, coming up behind me and wrapping his arms around my waist. "I wanted everything to be perfect for you."

I lean back against him, smiling. "It is."

"Come on," he says, taking my hand to lead me over to one of the large leather seats by the window.

"Are you going to tell me where we're going?" I ask once he takes the seat next to me.

He grins and shakes his head. "If I told you, it wouldn't be a surprise."

I pout for a moment before I relent. He's right, after all. And it is our honeymoon. "Are you at least going to tell me how long the flight is?"

He chuckles. "Put it this way. You're going to want to take a nap."

I lean against him as the pilot comes out to greet us personally, referring to us as Mr. and Mrs. Rossi. I feel ridiculous for just how giddy that makes me, but once he leaves and we're in the air, the exhaustion sets in.

This past day has undoubtedly been one of the happiest days in my life, but it's also been one of the longest.

I close my eyes and let myself drift off, knowing that I'll need all the energy I can get for whatever surprises Lorenzo has in store for me.

CHAPTER 33

LORENZO

As soon as Amelia falls asleep, I should take out my phone to get some work done, but I can't resist the urge to just watch her for a while. It's become one of my favorite activities. She's so peaceful when she sleeps, like an angel, as I stroke a dark curl away from her face.

It's been a long road to get here, but it finally happened. And we're actually married. I still can't believe it. I keep feeling like I'm going to wake up and find it's all been a dream, but even life can't be that cruel.

I hope she likes the seaside resort I'm taking her to on a small island just off the coast of Southern Italy. The island itself is owned by my family, which I'm not sure I'm going to tell her, considering she already thinks we're unnecessarily ostentatious and that certainly won't help.

It'll be good to get away, just the two of us. After everything that's happened, we need it, but it's not like I can keep her locked up on the island forever, as much as I might want to.

Once the plane has been in the air for a while, I finally settle in to do some work, taking care not to disturb Amelia. Eventually, I fall asleep myself, and I come to when Amelia starts stirring in her sleep.

"Lorenzo," she whispers, reaching for me in the darkness.

I take her hand and kiss it gently. "I'm right here, cara mia."

"Where are we?" she asks, rubbing her eyes sleepily as she sits up.

"We're almost there," I say, gesturing out the window. "Look."

She leans over to look and her eyes widen when she sees the island coming into view.

"Oh, my God," she breathes, leaning back in her seat with a happy sigh. "It's beautiful."

"I'm glad you like it," I say, smiling at her reaction. "It's all ours."

She gives me an incredulous look over her shoulder. "Seriously? You rented anisland?"

I purse my lips, trying not to laugh. "More or less."

She just sighs and settles back in her seat, but I can see a smile tugging at her lips. "You're ridiculous. But it's sweet."

If she had any idea...
