“So? New York is awesome.”

I snort. “You’re just thinking about the shopping.”

She giggles. “Guilty as charged.”

I roll my eyes.

“But I also want you to kick ass in your future career—boring though I think it is.”

Shaking my head, I glower as if she can see me. “Gee, thanks for the support.”

“I know you’re worried about being too far away from the hot firefighter—”

“It’s weird whenyoucall him that.”

“Whatever. But I’m sure he won’t want you to pass on such an amazing opportunity because of a little distance.”

“It won’t be so little,” I argue.

“It won’t matter to him. He loves and supports you. Right?”

“He really does.” I sigh. “You’re right, I’ll consider it. I should tell Rowan about it first, though.”

“Go for it, Grace.”

That’s exactly what my best friend Ashley told me to do. “I’ll see what happens. Enough about me—how are you? How’s married life?”

I’m worried about her since she went through with her marriage, despite finding out about her fiancés infidelity.

“Not so bad.”

“Really? So, Colton is behaving?”

“I’ve got that man under manners, and he’ll stay that way if he knows what’s good for him.” Her little laugh sounds way too diabolical.

My eyebrows pucker. “My god, Isabelle, what did you do to him?”

“Don’t worry about me,” is all she says. “What did you used to call me when we were kids?”

I scratch my head. I called her so many things. “Um... Queen Bitch, Cruella de Vil, Bride of Chuckie...”

“What? I didn’t know about the last one.”

“Because I never said it to your face.”

She scoffs. “You’re such a brat.”

I grin.

“The point is, I’ll get my way in any situation.”

“You’re downright scary.”

“I know, right?”

Sighing, I finally get out of the car. “As long as you’re okay. I’m going to call Rowan and give him the news about my possible internship. I’ll talk to you later.”

“Toodles, Gracie.”
