“She didn’t ask. She said she missed me.”

She rolled her eyes, so I opened the text thread so she could read it for herself. When I handed it to her, she practically snatched it from me. I wanted to laugh at her getting all worked up and being possessive, but I knew she wouldreallybe pissed. However, I couldn’t stop the smirk from forming on my lips.

“See, we gon’ have a problem.”

I lifted my eyebrows, wondering if she was talking about the two of us or her and YoYo. She turned to look at me and asked, “Why the fuck you smiling, Mel?”

“Because I’m getting your possessive side. I hipped her on game. She knows I’m with someone now.”

“And she still on bullshit talking about how she misses you.”

She was talking about her and Yolanda having a problem. I released a sigh of relief. She dropped my phone to the console. Sandrene knew exactly why Yolanda missed me. It was the same reason why she was blowing this shit out of proportion. “Drene… you the only woman I want. I told you that a few times. I guess you not gon’ wanna come to Beaumont with me now.”

“Like hell. I’m going to be there. I need to make sure she ain’t tryna step to you.”

I chuckled. “I doubt that will happen in front of my mama.”

“I’m glad you think this shit is funny.”

“It is. I haven’t given you a reason to doubt me, Sandrene. You know about my past. The only thing I can do now is be a better man than I was back then. That’s it. I don’t want your day to be overshadowed with bullshit.”

“Mm hmm. Check your message from your mother.”

I forgot that fast my mama had texted me. I grabbed my phone from the console to read it. I’d seen part of her message on the lock screen, saying she would be at the party after all. Zay and Joyy’s plans were canceled, so they would be at the party too. As I was about to check it, she sent another message.Sorry, I didn’t speak. LOL! Hey, baby boy. I forgot to tell you that Yolanda had invited you as well to the graduation party for Durrell Saturday if you can come.

“I’ll call her in a minute. She forgot to tell me about the party.”

Sandrene rolled her eyes. When I grabbed her hand, she jerked it from me. I smiled then slid it to her thigh. “So you pissed… why? I think you just tryna get out of dancing for me tonight. I’m not letting you off the hook. I don’t give a damn how tired you are. You shouldn’t have gotten that quickie earlier.”

“Shut up, Jamel,” she said as a smile played at her lips.

“You gotta dance to ‘WAP’ while you letting me see that wet ass pussy. I’ma get a bucket and a mop for that shit too.”

She rolled her eyes then let out a soft chuckle. “You make me sick, but you’re right. You haven’t done anything to warrant my attitude. YoYo,” she said, throwing up air quotes. “She gon’ get a pass this time, but she will definitely see me at this party this weekend.”

I frowned. “I wasn’t gonna go. I was fucking wit’ you about that. We could just go to Beaumont Sunday and spend time with my family.”

“Mm hmm. They’ve all seen me naked, haven’t they?”

“Yep, at least the men have. Jungle too. He was there for my birthday.”

“Shit.”

“Don’t trip. Ain’t nobody gon’ say nothing. Most of them are married, but theyallknow how I feel about you.”

She gave me a soft smile then grabbed my hand. I lifted it to my lips and kissed it then grabbed my phone to call my mama. She answered on the first ring. “Hey, baby boy.”

“Hey, Ma. You good?”

“Always… when you call. How are you?”

“I’m great.”

“Great, huh?”

“Yes, ma’am.”

“You got my text about Durrell’s party?”
