"Do it," I said, biting her lip as punishment for not giving me what I'd asked. I pushed her away, watched her perfect ass as she turned around and straddled me. Her slit was right there, so close. I reached up and grabbed her ass, raising my head to lick her crease.

Kyveli gasped, clenching her butt, but I gripped her harder, forced her to spread and lower herself to my face. I could feel my hot breath on her skin, feel heat radiating from inside her.

She wasn't content to just let me give her pleasure though. She leaned forward and planted her face between my legs, sucking on my clit with surprise intensity. I arched into her and responded in kind, closing my eyes in pleasure as I finally got to sink my fingers back inside her. She was so tight, so hot, and the walls of her pussy clenched around my fingers, desperate for more.

Sensation overloaded my system, her fingers, her tongue, mine on her clit and inside her, delving deeper, striving to wring every bit of pleasure from her that I could. I lost myself to it, unable to think, only able to respond to her touch, to the feel of her until it was too much, and the orgasm crashed down on me, obliterating all control, all sense of time. Kyveli groaned against my pussy as her muscles clenched down on me and we rode each other’s orgasms to the end.

"Holy fuck," I murmured as she rolled off me, her feet tucking behind my head, her face pressing kisses to my belly. "That was..."

"Amazing," she replied, her eyes glowing extra bright in the now dim light. There was more shadow than anything else in the room, but I felt nothing but warmth.

Well, warmth, and the rapidly approaching inevitability of exhaustion.

"Will you stay with me?" I asked, my eyes falling closed. Kyveli moved up and pressed a kiss to my cheek, her hair tickling my body.

"I wouldn't want to be anywhere else," she said as she gently rolled me onto my side and curled up behind me, her breasts pressing against my back and her arm wrapped around my waist.

Morning light filtered through the open curtains, rousing me to awareness. I slipped from the bed and walked toward the window, looking out on Envy.

It didn’t seem too awful today.

I felt more relaxed than I had since I'd arrived, the delicious release of being with Kyveli had been even better than my solo shower efforts. The last of the barriers between us seemed to have shifted now that I'd given in completely to my desire, and I could literally feel the tether that she'd spoken of before. It reached between us, warm, inviting.

I’d felt it with Reon too, I realized, after he'd honored me with his honesty about what he did and didn't want. That night we'd tangled together in comfort and love and it had been the best night's sleep. I just hadn’t known what it was at the time.

Now, I needed to face Lucien. Bridge this last gap, and I had a feeling that would be the hardest.

Maybe then I could go back to Earth and see Marie.

That other ache was back, and if in hell they called these connections tethers, then the link I had to my sister was just as strong and it was telling me that something was wrong. So very wrong. I clenched my jaw together.

"You seem sad again."

"Worried," I said, turning to face Kyveli. Her cheeks were deliciously flushed, her dark hair a mane. I could still taste her on my lips and part of me wanted to crawl back onto the bed and take her again. That ache for my sister couldn't be denied though. "I know you might not understand it, but my sister and I are close. So close. And sometimes I can tell when something is wrong with her, and Ky? Something is wrong. I just wish I could go to her. Check on her."

The shadow woman frowned, as though a thought had hit her. "Wait here," she said, leaving only shadows behind. She was gone so fast that my brain couldn't comprehend exactly how it had happened, and then she was back almost as fast, though now she held a small mirror in her hand.

"What's that?" I asked, hoping that it was a tool that I could use.

"This will let you see who you want, most of all." She held it out to me, and I took it tentatively, unsure exactly what to do. The back and edging were done in silver with intricate twists, flowers bloomed. Whoever had made this paid attention to all the tiny details. I wasn’t sure how to make it work, but the moment I looked into it the surface shimmered. It showed me not my own reflection, but my sister.

She was in a hospital bed, skin pale, eyes closed, with an oxygen mask covering her face, her heart beat spiking in slow, erratic intervals on a machine.

Chapter twenty-two

Lucien

Therewasaloudcrash at my chamber door followed by raised voices. At first, I ignored it, hoping the guardians would deal with the situation, but then I thought I heard Rava’s voice. Shoving back from my desk, I rushed to fling it open.

"What is going on?" I boomed, forcing the guardians to separate and show me both Rava and Kyveli, their hands clasped tightly together. The sight of it made my stomach drop and I almost slammed the door closed again. Reon wasn’t far behind them though and I knew that if all three of them were here, then it was something serious.

I caught the terrified glimmer in Rava's eyes. She’d been crying, that much was clear.

"What's wrong?" I asked, reaching a hand toward her. She grasped it and I pulled her inside, Kyveli and Reon following close behind. The guardian closed the door, barring it as well, as I moved everyone further into the room. Those outside were less likely to hear that way.

“Speak to me,” I said to Rava, giving her hand a gentle squeeze. She needed to know that I was here, listening.
