Besides, it was too late to delay the wedding. The priest stood right in front of them and the hospital chapel was filled with Grizzly’s rowdy MC brothers and their women.
The bikers jostled and whistled, but one word from King, and the room fell silent again.
“All right then,” Grizzly said, grinning. “But you can still change your mind. We can plan for a big wedding. Do it somewhere fancy, even hire a wedding planner. The whole works. You deserve everything, baby. My job is to make you happy.”
For a moment, Piper pictured herself standing in a big church, surrounded by the people they both cared about. Then she imagined them having a fancy reception at a hotel, then dismissed the thought. Piper wasn’t one of those women who needed everything perfect for her wedding day.
“You’re sweet,” she said, touching his shaven cheek. He looked odd without his beard, but Piper wasn’t worried. Grizzly would grow it out after this. She preferred that look, anyway. She looked deep into the eyes of the man she loved, the biker she was crazy about.
“And?” Grizzly pressed.
“I have everything I need right here,” she told him.
Tank nudged Grizzly in the shoulder. “Told you she’s a keeper,” Tank said.
That made Piper laugh. The priest cleared his throat. Father Michael probably had other tasks to do today.
“Shall we continue?” Father Michael asked.
“Yes,” Piper said.“Please.”
Grizzly couldn’t seem to take his eyes off her the entire time. It didn’t seem to matter that Piper didn’t exactly look her best. She put on a wedding dress and some makeup, with some assistance from Prudence, King’s wife.
That couldn’t hide how pale she still was or the circles under her eyes. The moment Grizzly called her beautiful, she ceased feeling self-conscious. In Grizzly’s eyes, Piper was perfect. She couldn’t ask for a better partner.
As the ceremony continued, Piper’s mind briefly wandered. Did she wish her dad was standing next to her? Not really. Ultimately, Mervin had never really been a father to her. All her old man ever cared about was himself. Maybe she stuck with him for so long, hoping he’d changed, but Piper should’ve realized sooner he was a lost cause.
It didn’t matter now. Piper had a new man in her life, one she would give her body, heart, and soul to without question.
She started off as Grizzly’s reluctant and frightened guest, but he turned out to be a treasure, one she swore to cherish and love forever. Besides, it wasn’t every day a woman found a gorgeous biker willing to travel to hell and back again for her.
Grizzly didn’t bother waiting for the priest to tell him it was time to kiss the bride. Her husband yanked her close, sliding his arm around her waist. Piper noticed he made sure not to press against her injury. He’d always been careful with her.
She beat him to the punch, rising on tiptoe to kiss him on the mouth. Someone let out a hoot. Grizzly kissed her back fiercely. The heat of his mouth against her felt amazing. She could already imagine Grizzly throwing her down and having his way with her—of course, they needed to wait until she healed.
She wondered if she could be that patient. Grizzly prodded his tongue against her lips, and she let him in. The room, their guests, and the priest faded from her line of sight. For those precious moments, it was just the two of them.
When Grizzly pulled away, he gazed at her like she was the light of his life. Piper wondered if Ariana and Drew were watching the two of them from heaven.
Grizzly believed it was Ariana who sent Piper his way. If that was true, then Piper would always be thankful for the silent guardian angel who drew Grizzly and her together.I promise to love him and take good care of him, Ariana, Piper thought.
“I love you so much, Piper,” he said. “And I promise to make you the happiest bride in the world.”
“I love you back, Grizzly,” she said. “You’re the dream I never knew I wanted.”
The End
