“Wait, I thought King didn’t want any more of his MC members involved in my mess,” Piper said. “The last thing I want is to cause more problems between you and the rest of your MC brothers.”
Grizzly glanced at the nurse.“Sorry, but could you give us a moment?”
The nurse looked unhappy but nonetheless left the room. Piper wouldn’t be surprised if the MC had some kind of hold on the local hospital.
They owned most of the town, after all, but they weren’t tyrants. From the stories Grizzly had told her, the MC would defend the town if it came under threat from another violent group.
“Things have changed,” Grizzly said once they were alone. He flashed her a sizzling smile that instantly made her nipples tighten and her pussy wet.Now isn’t the time to think about sex, Piper reminded herself. They could have plenty of that once Rage was dead.
“How have they changed?” Piper asked.
“I told King I planned on making you my old woman after I settle the score with Rage,” Grizzly said.
Piper’s heart hammered at those words. She couldn’t believe it at first. Piper had been no one when Grizzly decided to take her with him for questioning. She was just a woman trying to keep herself and her crazy father afloat with two jobs.
Piper never even had time to consider having a relationship or her long-term happiness. Grizzly and she had only been together for a short time, but she knew she wanted a future with him in it.
“You want to marry me?” Piper asked. She didn’t know why that revelation shocked her. Grizzly was crazy about her, but she never imagined them taking that final step in their relationship.
“Is that your way of telling me you refuse to be my wife?” Grizzly asked with a raise of his eyebrow.
“That’s not it all,” she blurted. “If you’re proposing, do it properly with a ring and everything.”
“A ring? That’s all you want? Sure, baby. I’ll return with a ring and with good news,” Grizzly said, beaming.
Cocky biker. Then again, Grizzly was her arrogant protector.
“I’ll wait,” she told him. “Just try not to kill yourself.”
“I won’t. I have someone to come home to after all,” he answered.
Chapter Eleven
“What do you think?” Grizzly asked Tank.
They both killed the engines of their Harleys a good distance from Rage’s trailer. When they drove out to Dew Valley and the trailer park on the outskirts of town, Grizzly felt a heightened sense of anticipation.
He wanted to get back at Rage for all the damage and suffering Rage had caused Piper. He needed to keep his murderous instincts in check, lest this all turned out to be an elaborate setup by Rat.
What if Rat wanted to get rid of him and Rage in one go? He checked his phone in case there were any updates from Gunner, who was watching over Piper in the hospital. He gave Gunner a call.
“All’s nice and quiet here,” Gunner reported.
“Good. Won’t be long now. Tank and I are just checking our surroundings before busting in Rage’s trailer,” Grizzly said.
“Happy hunting, and don’t worry. I’ll make sure nothing happens to your girl,” Gunner said.
With his worries laid to rest, Grizzly turned to Tank, who’d been scouting the area. “No signs of other Black Dogs members,” Tank reported.
“You certain?” Grizzly asked. His fingers itched to draw his gun. It would be easy to walk up to Rage’s trailer, knock the bastard’s door down, and shoot him in the head. Grizzly didn’t think it would be that easy though.
“Have a look yourself,” Tank said, handing him his binoculars.
Grizzly took it and adjusted the focus. Rage had parked his trailer away from the rest of the camp. Rage’s nearest neighbor was miles away, too far to hear a gunshot.
Grizzly finally spotted Rage slumped on the sofa, watching TV. Rage had some of kind shotgun next to him, as if he expected trouble. Could it be this easy?
“Let’s not waste any time,” Grizzly said.
