“Have you eaten?” Grizzly asked her. Now that he was here, all he wanted to do was take care of her. Ensure her needs were met.

Piper pulled away from his embrace, then shook her head.“I was waiting for you,” she admitted. She straightened her shoulders.“What did you bring back?”

Grizzly detected the fake enthusiasm in her voice but let her be. Maybe food would distract her from today’s worries. Rage was a huge problem though, one he never anticipated. If there was one man he never wanted to go up against, it was Rat’s current right-hand man. Rumor had it Rage earned his nickname from violently killing off anyone who pissed him off, even if it was merely a minor offense.

“Cheeseburgers, fries, and shakes. I hope you have an appetite,” Grizzly said. They settled in the living room. Piper reached for the paper bags and started taking everything out.

“I could eat,” she admitted. He wondered if she told him that just to make him feel better. In the end, they both ended up finishing everything, including the two large fries.

“I’m full,” Piper said, leaning her head against the sofa. Grizzly reached for her hand and gave it a squeeze. A brilliant idea struck his head, something that would cheer his woman up. Grizzly looked out the window and gave a nod.

“It’s a beautiful night out. Why don’t we take a ride? You look like you could use one,” Grizzly suggested.

Piper widened her eyes.“I thought I was supposed to say indoors?”

“Rage saw you and confirmed where you are. What’s the point of keeping you cooped up in here?” he asked.

He knew it was a reckless decision, but he wanted to turn the frown on Piper’s face into a smile. Grizzly wasn’t usually a gambling man, but life was too short. Piper couldn’t live the rest of hers running and hiding.

“If you’re sure,” she said. “A ride sounds wonderful. Give me ten minutes. I’ll get dressed.”

While Grizzly waited for Piper, he made a phone call to Whizz, the MC’s resident hacker.

“Why do you want information on Rage? This is for a mission? I haven’t heard anything from King or Brick,” Whizz said.

“It’s for me. Do me a solid, Whizz,” Grizzly said. “I never asked you for anything before.”

Plus, Whizz owed him. A decade ago, Whizz had been on the run from a couple of debt collectors. Grizzly and some members of his crew had driven them off, made sure they never bothered Whizz again.

“Fine,” Whizz finally said. “From what I can find so far, Rage is trouble. Not someone you want to cross paths with unless you’re really backed against the corner.”

“It’s too late. Rage messed with a woman I’ve started caring deeply for,” Grizzly explained.

“Ah, Mervin’s daughter?”

It didn’t surprise him that Whizz knew about Piper. The hacker knew everything that went on in the MC and had his fingers in everything.

Whizz had proven his loyalty to the MC numerous times. Unlike Mervin, Grizzly knew their personal files and secrets were safe with Whizz.

“That’s right,” Grizzly said.

“I’ll email you Rage’s file,” Whizz said. “Is there anything else?”

“Nah, I’m good for now,” Grizzly said, noticing Piper emerging from his bedroom.

She had changed into a pretty floral knee-length dress and boots. Color dotted her cheeks and excitement danced in her eyes.

She’s been cooped up here for days, Grizzly reminded himself. Now that she finally had a chance to get out, she probably wanted to have a good time—and he’d give it to her.

“Grizzly, one last thing. King will need to know about this,” Whizz said, sounding apologetic.

“Yeah, I know,” Grizzly said with a sigh.

Whizz ended the call. Grizzly knew Whizz was only doing his job. Besides, King wouldn’t do anything with that information because he expected Grizzly to deal with his own problems.

“Is everything fine?” Piper asked him. “You haven’t changed your mind or anything?”

Grizzly beamed at her. “Not at all. Come on.” He put his cut back on and held out a hand to her. She didn’t even hesitate. Piper placed her fingers over his inked ones. Grizzly locked up and led her out of the apartment. She was smiling the entire time, and the sight of her made his heart beat a little faster.
