“Immediately. I will have you pack some bags and give you an address to a safe house,” he says and I nod, taking the paperwork and pen he hands me. I quickly sign it and hand it back. I need out of this office before I do or say something I will regret. I am here to get rid of him, not fall in love with the very thing that killed my mother. God, help me.

I have a feeling she’s hiding something. It may be that she’s skittish about what’s going on in her life. Either way, I need to keep an eye on her. We just arrived at the safe house and she’s in her room unpacking her stuff. She hasn’t said a word since we left the agency.

“Is there anything to eat in this place?” she asks and plops down on the couch. She’s wearing a white wife beater and shorts that are showing off her perfect ass and lean legs. She’s fucking gorgeous and all mine—she just doesn’t know it yet.

“I will have to order out,” I tell her and slip off my suit jacket and dress shirt, then head into my bedroom. Once I enter, I take off my dress pants and slip on some sweatpants.

“How long have you been a bodyguard?” I hear her ask as I head back into the living room. Her eyes immediately scour my body and I smile to myself. I know who she is and what her family has done to other vampires.

“Two years,” I respond, and sit down in the chair opposite the couch.

“Hopefully, you’re good at your job.”

“Quite good,” I tell her, and a smirk crosses my face.

“That’s all I need to hear,” she counters and a knock sounds at the door. I get up to answer it and find Valentine standing there.

“Brought pizza because I know you need to stock up food,” he says, and I nod. I take the pizza and he follows me in. I place the boxes on the coffee table, then turn my attention back to Valentine.

“Thanks. I was getting ready to order out.”

“You’re welcome. This must be Trinity?”

“Trinity, meet Valentine.”

“Nice to meet you,” she says and rummages through one of the pizza boxes and pulls out a piece of pepperoni pizza.

“Is Trinity your mate?” he asks, and I nod. I am going to have to give him the info I found out, but at a later time. I can deal with this situation myself, my way.

“Okay. I have to get home, but message me if you have any trouble,” he tells me and exits the house. I stride over to the chair and take a seat, and watch as she takes a bite then moans as the flavors hit her tongue. I need to get some blood from the refrigerator, but I can wait a little longer.

“Not going to eat?”

“I don’t eat that, but you already know that,” I say and her eyes go wide.

“Yes, I do.”

“I also know who you are and what you do.”

“How?”

“Any vampire knows the Van Helsings. We grow up listening to stories.”

“Then you know why I asked for you specifically?”

“Yes, but there’s something you need to know that will change everything you’ve been told.”

“Well, then tell me.”

Trinity

I sit here on the couch as I wait for him to tell me what he knows. I wonder what it is and I dread that it’ll be bad news.

“Your mother wasn’t killed by a vampire.” I tell her and tears start falling down her cheeks. I can’t understand what she must have gone through.

“How would you know that?” she asks, sniffling
