Andie jumped.
"What, oh crap. I fell asleep."
"Yes, not only did you fall asleep, but you nearly gave me a heart attack by not answering your phone."
She reached for her phone and found five missed calls from him, three from Christy and a rather pissy text telling her Mike was losing his mind and she was going to beat his ass if he didn't stop blaming her for his own anxiety. She looked up at him.
"You bothered Christy again?"
"Define bothered?" The corners of his eyes crinkled as he tried to defuse her anger with a smile.
"Ugh. Mike, you have to cut this out." She got up and marched towards the elevator.
At least she wasn't marching out the front door, he thought. He chased after her before she could change her mind.
"Slow down, you don't need to be running."
Her face turned beet red with anger. The elevator dinged, and they both stepped in. He punched in his code and scanned his fingerprint. The second he finished, she turned on him.
"Listen, mister. You are slowly going crazy. I don't think you have even realized it yet, but your insanity is making me nuts! If you can't get a handle on this, you are going to push me away. And I don't want to be pushed away because I am freaking in love with you!"
She immediately covered her hand with her mouth as if it had betrayed her.
Looking up at him, she hoped he missed it, but he had some stupid grin on his face that told her he heard every word.
"Oh, you do, do you?"
"Do what?" she tried to play dumb.
"You love me, you said it, and now you can never take it back." He reached down and scooped her into his arms, kissing her as soon as he could reach her lips. He held her up against the wall of the elevator, and the pent-up anxiety and frustration all left him as he held her tight and kissed the beautiful lips of his angry little angel. The doors opened with a ding and he pulled her to him and carried her into the apartment.
"Put me down!"
"Not a chance."
"Well then, where are you taking me?"
"Guess who I talked to while you were out?" he said as he picked up the pace to their bedroom.
"Hmmm... Jason? Or wait Christy, I know you spoke to her, right? Wait, was it your mom?" she said jokingly to him, while he kissed her neck and walked toward their bedroom.
"Can we not talk about my mom when I'm about to take advantage of you?"
She laughed, and he laughed, enjoying every minute he had with her. "Is it taking advantage when I'm coming willingly?"
Chapter Twenty-Six
Theydidn'tpackherthings that night. Instead, they spent it in bed, not on doctor's orders this time but for pleasure. In fact, she never went back home. In his excitement to get her moved in, he sent two of his guys to pack up all her belongings. They brought her furniture to a storage unit, and they brought everything else to his apartment. It annoyed her he was taking over again, but she realized annoyance and anger are two different things. She loved this man, and he loved her. He reminded her of that each day. Unfortunately, sometimes his ways of showing it, such as packing up her things at Avery's without telling her, lacked a certain finesse. She still couldn't figure out how his guys got in there without Avery knowing, so she had a bone to pick with her sister too.
Her pregnancy was progressing wonderfully. They found out they were having a son and they had already promised him off in marriage to Jason and Christy's baby girl. Things were good, everything was going according to plan. In fact, things felt a little too good and Andie was getting anxious. She had just hit her eight-month mark and kept thinking something was going to go wrong. Being so desperate to have a job and take care of herself, she and Mike came to an agreement one morning.
"Mom had an idea, and it was actually a good one," he said while pouring her orange juice during breakfast.
"Mike, your mom has loads of good ideas, you just never listen to her."
"Like painting the nursery yellow?"
"Okay, maybe not that one," she smirked.
