The midwife did exactly as she said. She also took some blood from Andie and was going to run some additional tests, one of which could tell them if it would be a boy or a girl. After tonight's scare, Mike didn't care if it was one of each, he needed to know Andie would be okay.

"What do we do now?" he asked.

"Since I don't see any obvious breaks in the amniotic sac or major issues, I think we are good. I'm going to run this blood work in the morning and I will get back with you both. In the meantime, I'd like Andie on bed-rest for the next few days, maybe a week, and we will see how she is doing then."

"Okay, got it. Bed-rest for a week. Is there anything else she needs to do? Or avoid? Or eat or not? I read liver is good for pregnant women."

"Take a breath Daddy, you two are going to be fine. I'd say bed-rest, plenty of fluids, no sexual intercourse, but everything else should be just fine." She winked at them both, and he laughed when Andie blushed.

As she started packing up, Andie went to stand.

"Where are you going?" he demanded.

"I'm going to walk her out," she said.

"Like hell you are! Get back in bed. She said bed-rest... not walk around the apartment rest."

Bella laughed and looked at Andie, "Good luck, little mama." And she turned to walk herself out.

Chapter Twenty-Three

Andiewasexhausted, shedidn't even have the energy to pick a fight with Mike and tell him she could do whatever she wanted. Honestly, if she thought it through, she didn't even want to tell him that. She had been terrified all night, and the only thing that got her through this scare was the man standing in front of her. She was thinking she had been underestimating him from the onset of this weird relationship they found themselves in. Without a further argument she got herself back into bed, leaned back on some pillows he was piling behind her and let him tuck her in like a small child.

Bending down, he reached one hand to their child and placed a kiss on her forehead. "Relax for a bit, I'm going to make sure Bella found her way out okay."

"Thank you."

"There is no need for thanks, just close your eyes for a bit. I'll be back in as soon as I can."

Walking into the living room, it surprised him to see Jason and Christy were still there. Christy was sitting on the couch with an expectant look on her face, and Jason kept pacing back and forth in front of the windows.

"Did the Bella leave?" he asked as he approached them.

"Yes." Christy responded, "How is she?"

"She's exhausted and still scared but physically she is going to be okay, it looks like the baby is okay too." Just saying those words out loud made him feel calmer than he had since he found out what was happening.

"Oh, thank goodness!" Christy exclaimed.

Jason approached him and placed a hand on his shoulder, "Listen bro, I know your probably upset with us but..."

Mike interrupted, "Upset would be an understatement. Let me start by saying I love the both of you as if you were family, but what happened today was completely unacceptable." Turning to Jason he said, "I would never have kept something like this from you if it had happened to Christy and your child. I am disappointed because it feels as if you both thought I couldn't handle this. I needed to know so I could take care of the woman that I love, but the two of you decided I didn't. That is not okay!"

Worried Andie would overhear him; he lowered his voice. "She wants Andie on complete bed-rest, she is already wanting to fight me on it, I can see it in her eyes. I need support from the two of you, not to be worried that you will not be truthful to me. Understand?"

Jason was staring at the floor again, but Christy spoke up. "We understand."

Turning back to her, he said, "Thank you for helping her when I couldn't. I know she appreciates you for being there, even though she hasn't mentioned it yet. She's very close with her sister and I have rarely heard her speak of other friends. It's possible it's just the two of them, so having you there as support was very helpful."

"Can I go see her real quick?" Christy asked.

"Real quick."

Christy nearly ran down the hallway toward their bedroom.

Mike walked toward the kitchen and opened the fridge, "Want a beer?"

"I thought you'd never ask." Jason said, while still keeping his distance. In all the years they had been friends, tonight was the first time Mike turned his anger on him.
