She shifted in the bed and turned so she was facing him. "Why would you think I'm mad at you?"

"You shut down Andie, you stopped talking to me."

She took a deep breath and gathered her thoughts. "I'm scared. But not in how you think. I'm not scared off, I will not run, Mike. My mind is a jumbled mess. I like you... I probably like you too much, and the thought of something happening to you is terrifying. I won't deny that. But I'm more worried that you don't trust me to know things about you and that there are parts of your life you don't want to share with me. I want to build a relationship with you, but that needs to be done with trust. Sometimes I don't think you trust me."

The tears in her eyes nearly undid him. His need to protect her from the harsh reality of his life was driving a wedge between them, and he never even knew it until now.

"Andie, look at me," he said, placing a finger under her chin and raising her eyes to him. He took his thumb and brushed away the tears, "I want to build a relationship with you too, and I will do anything to prove to you we can make this work. I am sorry for not sharing things with you. Some stories are ones that only I know. They are stories of things I never share with anyone because they are so awful. Losing my career was the worst thing to ever happen to me. I was blessed to have a friend like Jason with plans that were bigger than I ever imagined. When I was going through rehab at the VA, I met so many guys with no plans left in life. They seemed hopeless, and I saw myself as the same. The day Jason showed up and presented me with the opportunity to work with him, everything changed. Even though things have been good, I still miss the time with my unit every single day. It wasn't until you entered my life that I found peace. You make me calm and whole, Andie. I can never explain how lucky I am to have you and our child."

Andie quickly closed the space between them. She lay in his arms and promised herself never to let her fears get in the way of their relationship again. Gathering her emotions, she looked into his eyes and said, "I think I'm falling in love with you."

He smiled and responded, "I think I'm falling in love with you too."

Chapter Twenty

Andie'sphonedingedforwhat felt like the millionth time that day.

Mike: Running behind. Are you almost ready?

Andie: Yes, just finishing up

Mike: Good, we need to be at the tarmac by 3

Andie: Tarmac?

Mike: You'll see.

He pulled up about ten minutes later dressed in a navy suit, no tie, just a crisp white shirt. She had planned to meet him downstairs, but he called as he was pulling up and forbid her to carry her bag downstairs. She took one look at the way he was dressed and realized she needed to change. She hadn't been feeling well and after spending the day in bed she opted for comfy clothes to travel in.

"You really don't have to change," he said as he watched her ruffle through her closet again.

"You're wearing a suit."

"I normally do for these things, but you don't have to. You can be comfortable and just change on the plane."

She rolled her eyes at him and got changed in silence. She didn't feel like fighting and still didn't feel well, so she just ignored him. After calling the midwife earlier and being reassured that the cramping she was experiencing was normal, she tried not to worry. Against her sister's advice, she was not planning on telling Mike about her concerns because she just knew he would lose it. Instead, she spent most of the afternoon lounging around and trying to feel better when she should have been getting ready.

Finally dressed in the outfit she planned to wear for the night, she stepped out of the closet to an appreciative look on Mike's face.

"Mmm... you look amazing," he said, closing the gap between them.

Mike thought she looked gorgeous in a tight-fitting nude dress with matching heels, and he couldn't pull his gaze from her. If he didn't have a client waiting on his plane, then he would have called the pilot to tell them they were going to delay the trip. He had one speaking engagement tonight, and he normally would have just flown home after. Instead, he decided he wanted to spend the night in Toronto with Andie. Once work was over, they would have two days to themselves to enjoy the city. He gathered her bags and they headed down to the car that was waiting for them.

"How are you driving up to a plane right now?" she asked as they turned the corner of the private airstrip.

"It's a private jet."

"Private to who?"

"The firm owns it."

"Don't you own the firm?"

"Well, yes, with Jason."

"So, you and Jason own a plane?" The look on her face was making it hard for Mike not to smirk.

"I guess if you look at it that way, we do. Speaking of Jason, he, Christy, and our client are already waiting for us."
