"I get it. I've been working on schedules all morning. Between Red, Mac and Athena, I think we have everything covered."

"You're splitting up Mac and Athena?"

"Uh, no, I don't want a death threat. But the two of them can cover most of your overseas stuff, and Red will handle what's in the US."

"I can give you a couple days, but I will need your help on some more administrative stuff."

"Seriously? You know how much I hate that political bullshit."

"I know, but I still have a newborn at home and my wife has my balls in her diaper bag right now. You'll understand once your little one gets here."

"Fine. But it's only because your wife scares me."

"She scares me too, bro, she scares me too."

"I'll check in with you guys in the morning, I need to go get Andie. I scheduled an appointment with Christy's midwife for 3:00."

"Good luck."

"I'm going to need it." And with that, Mike hung up.

Chapter Seventeen

Mikedidn'twanttowait any longer to see Andie, so he packed up his things and walked back across the street. It had been just over two hours since he dropped her off and he was getting anxious. He didn't want to give her the opportunity to deny him at the door, so he buzzed another apartment in the building and said he was with the health department. He learned over the years people never questioned you, when you use a voice of authority. Before he knew it, he was standing in front of her apartment and knocking on her door.

There was no answer.

His mind started spinning, he knew she was there, why didn't she answer? He knocked again, and again, and again. Until his pounding angered a neighbor who opened the door to yell at him. When he turned back to her door, he found a half-asleep Andie scowling at him.

"What the hell are you doing?"

His heart was still racing from fear something happened to her, which meant his response wasn't as polite as he planned.

"What am I doing? Why didn't you answer?"

"I was freaking sleeping because someone kept me up all night!"

At that the neighbor opened the door again, yelling at them to take it inside. Andie made a quick apology and pulled him by the arm into her place.

Once inside, the guilt settled in. He had woken her up and now she was mad at him again. He wondered if she was always going to be mad at him or if it was only going to be this way while she was pregnant.

"I'm sorry," he said as he approached her. "I didn't mean to wake you, I just got nervous, and I wanted to see you."

Her face softened a bit. "The appointment isn't until 3:00."

"You're right, I just got impatient."

"You are going to need to work on that. Also, I'm not going anywhere except back to my bed... to sleep."

She started walking to her room, then turned to say, "Are you coming?"

He jumped into action and nearly ran to catch up with her.

She wasn't kidding about sleeping. Her head hit the pillow, and she was out. The good news was while she slept, they weren't arguing, so he enjoyed the moments of lying next to her without getting in trouble for something. He watched her quietly and adored how soft and calm she was while lying next to him. It took everything not to strip her naked and slide in between her legs, but he knew if he did they would have two problems. First, when she was naked they weren't talking about their future and second, she really was exhausted. He rolled over and pulled her to him, enjoying the feel of her in his arms, and he tried to be content with that for the time being.

Andie woke up, snuggled into Mike's side, and found him messaging people on his phone. She had no idea how he just canceled an entire day of work, but he did. She still wasn't clear on what his day-to-day life looked like, but he wasn't familiar with hers either. She got up, got sick, and changed her clothes to get ready to head back to his place. This morning - rather all day - sickness was going to be the death of her. The only hope she had was that her sister and Google both promised her it would get better.

Andie's conversation with her sister went better than she thought. Avery was beyond excited that she was going to become an auntie and couldn't wait for Andie to move in. She felt a bit at ease knowing she had at least that much figured out. Now she had to figure out what she was going to do with this man in her life. She didn't want to admit it to her sister, but she was falling for him hard and fast. Every time she picked a fight with him, she was annoyed with herself. They had to figure out how to communicate better or this was going to be a stressful relationship.
