"Because I promise you right now that I will always be here for you. I will do everything I can to take care of you and I will take my new role as Dad very seriously. That's why I know everything will be okay."

She took a deep breath but said nothing.

"Let's head to my apartment. You can call your sister once we get there and let her know you're okay. Sound good?"

She nodded her head and with that Mike ushered her out of this office and to his apartment.

Chapter Eleven

AndiequicklylearnedMike'shome was another elevator ride further up to a ridiculously enormous apartment. Andie was sure it stretched the entire length of the building and may have even been the entire floor. With a huge grand entrance that they stepped into from the elevator, she felt like she was in another world that she didn't belong in. The floors were hardwood and extended for what felt like forever. From where they stood, she could see a formal living room that faced the windows looking out on the city. To the right was a huge stainless-steel kitchen and to the left a baby grand piano. This place felt more like a museum than a home. Embarrassed beyond belief that she even allowed him into her building, let alone into her apartment, she started their conversation with the one question that was eating her up inside.

"What is it you do for this security firm?"

"I... um... own it," he said a bit hesitantly.

What? She flopped down on the chair closest to her. Her green-eyed giant owned a security company, wait excuse me, a security firm, she corrected her thoughts. Whatever that meant. She shook her head in disbelief.

"Own it?"

"Well, partially. Jason is my partner; you will meet him soon. We began the firm shortly after we got out of the military. The company does contract work for the government and offers private security for families and friends of military members and veterans. We lucked out, and it took off."

That explained the 27-page confidentiality agreement his mother had her sign before they came upstairs.

"I see."

"Not a lot of the guys know I am an owner. I prefer it that way, so if you could keep that bit to yourself, I would appreciate it." She must have made a strange face because he tilted his head and continued to explain, "I'm more of an in-the-field guy. I prefer to go out on missions rather than being stuck in the office and dealing with clients. However, since Jason and his wife had the baby, I've had to step in for him and I think the guys are catching on."

"Missions? Like what? People shoot at you?" A look of horror came over her face.

"On a good day."

She watched as he reached for his side and winced. Wondering what was wrong, she thought to herself how that was another thing to add to her list of questions. Not for the first time today, she was trying to figure out what she was doing and what universe someone had dropped her into.

"Are you hungry?" he asked.

"Starving actually, which makes no sense because the smell of everything today has made me want to hurl." Andie scrunched up her face at the thought of how her body was already acting so strangely. It made her wonder what the next few months were going to be like.

Mike laughed, "Well, I'll make you something simple then. Come with me."

They headed to the kitchen, and Mike started pulling things out of the fridge. He looked like he was about to cook for seventy people, and Andie realized she needed to speak up or risk disappointing him.

"Listen, I would be good with a bowl of cereal," she said, watching him empty his fridge onto the counter. "I'm not sure how much I could eat right now, and that looks like a lot."

"You're pregnant, Andie, so you need more than cereal. I also know you have barely eaten all day because you spent it sound asleep in my office. Did you finish the lunch my mom brought you?"

"I did, and sorry again about passing out like that."

"You need to stop apologizing for sleeping. I remember Jason's wife being pretty tired while she was expecting. My mom said it's a normal pregnancy thing so I'm good with you napping away in my office if it makes you feel better," he said giving her a warm smile.

"Ya, I guess it is normal. You know, I didn't mean for this to happen."

"I know." He put down the pan he was holding and walked around the counter towards her.

"You do? Why are you being so good about this? Shouldn't you be storming off and calling me a liar, telling me it isn't yours? I'm sure that's how it works in the movies."

"Listen, I would be lying right now if I told you I wasn't freaking out. My work is dangerous, so I never really saw myself having a family. But as soon as I realized what had happened, it was like everything fell into place. I want a child with you, Andie. I'm happy this has happened. We will have plenty of time to get to know each other. Once we get you moved in, it will be much easier. I work long hours, but I will cut back on travel so I can be here with you."

"Wait, what?" she said jumping down from her stool, "No one said I'm moving in here."
