My head hung, and I kept moaning and pleading for him to fuck me.
“You’re almost fucking breaking me,” he rasped out. His touch became rough between my legs, and it sent me over.
I cried out, feeling a rush of wetness run down my thighs from my orgasm. I was so drained I couldn’t open my eyes.
He untied me, picked me up, and carried me toward the bathroom. “What did I say about sleeping, ah?”
We didn’t sleep the entire night.
Chapter18
Roma
Felice wasn’t understating it when he’d said the east-facing terrace was made for sunrises.
The air was freezing, but the sun was warm as it shed its light over Lake Michigan. It was like a painting coming to life as the shapes and figures appeared with color. The water took on a teal hue, but it was frozen over in some spots. Buildings formed into solid silhouettes, and so did the city around them.
I wasn’t sure how long I’d stay out for—the cold was cutting—but it was hard to leave the view.
Felice came up behind me, smelling like a million bucks, wearing a suit that cost a pretty penny. Earlier he’d said, “Business.” And it seemed to me it was code for, “I’ll be gone for a while.”
“Check your messages,” I said, as he wrapped his arms around me, breathing me in.
He took his phone out and looked at it. “This is a grocery list.”
I laughed. “Foreign, right?”
He pulled me closer and bit my neck. I moved some, giving him easy access to it.
“Whoever stocked the kitchen did a great job, but I need a few more things. I’ll make us dinner tonight.”
“I’ll be home before lunch.” He squeezed my ass. “I can’t stay away from you that long.” He placed kisses all over my cheek and neck, his stubble rough against my skin. “You belong in my bed. Sunrise. Sunset. Every day of my life. You try to walk away from me, from us, this story isn’t going to end well. You ever heard of Plato?”
“Refresh my memory.” I knew about Plato, but I wasn’t sure where he was going with this.
“I’m going to tell it in terms of us. We started out as a circle, you and I, but a thunderbolt severed us in half when we tried to be too much like the gods. This set us on different paths. We constantly searched for each other until destiny led us to each other again. I knew it the moment I saw you. It felt like a thunderbolt hit me again, reminding me of the separation. Reminding me that you are the half I lost.”
The warmth of his words clashed with the bitter cold. I held on to him tighter before I walked him to the private elevator. We stared at each other until the door closed. I wasn’t sure what to do with myself after, so I made a parfait with dairy-free yogurt. Then I took a hot bath and let the water roll down my back, trying to ease the tension from stress and a long night of having my body worked.
After doing my hair and makeup, I dug around in the closet for something to wear. I decided on a fig-colored long-sleeved bodysuit, a long cardigan of the same color, and a pair of jeans.
It was still early, so I made a cup of coffee and sat out on the terrace again. I called Elsa to check in. I barely said hello when she filled me in on the latest.
“Alfonso Maggio called Hayden and demanded to know what happened to his son. Hayden didn’t know what to tell him, except for what I told him. We went to the office to grab our bags, we talked to Jack for a minute before I left you two alone. You met me a few minutes later and we left.”
“Felice talked to you.”
“He told me to stick to the truth about that part of the night if anyone questioned me about it. He didn’t tell me what happened. Hayden did.”
It sounded like she’d walked outside. Hammers banged. I asked her how it was going, then thanked her for everything, including the clothes.
“Forget the clothes,” she said. “Let’s talk about the penthouse instead.”
I almost laughed because she sounded almost turned on. I told her where I was sitting, and we got lost in the details for a while. After we hung up, I called Lo. The kids were wreaking havoc in the background while she tried to quiet them down.
“If I ever say I’m ready for kids, remind me of this moment.Seriously!” she screamed. “You’re both getting coal for Christmas! Damn. They’re just like me and you when we were young.”
“We were so bad.”
