“I hate to interrupt, but you have a call.”
“Who?”
“Allen. He needs you to come down to the station tomorrow.”
I hummed, thinking over what needed to be done. Thankfully, I felt much more clear headed now. “Tell him tomorrow at noon or so. I’ll get in touch with Roderick to confirm when he can meet me there. Plus, Atlas and Oli should be back by then.”
“And maybe someone will have located Christopher by then too,” Bodhi tacked on.
“Maybe,” I replied, my mind still not ready to think about someone I trusted betraying me like that.
“I’ll let him know,” Alexei replied softly before leaning over to press a kiss to my lips. He walked away, already on the phone, to give us another moment of privacy.
Suddenly, the front door slammed open. Maks’ voice boomed, filling the house. “Nic! Razor is here, so get your ass out here.”
Guess the real fun is about to begin.
Wrenn
Saturday
“What do you mean she’s pregnant?!” Christopher asked, his face purple.
A huff of laughter escaped me, and searing pain rippled through my body as my probably broken ribs shifted and the tears from the bullet wound were pulled. Nic’s aim was bad, so she hadn’t managed to kill me, something I'd never forgive her for. My life had become nothing but pain since the moment he dragged me into this room—beatings, rape, torture. There wasn’t an inch of me that he hadn’t violated, but the worst part, thevery worstpart was that Thomas was made to watch it all.
His long hair was unkempt, hanging around his face as if he could block out what was happening around him. He had looked haunted, scared, but there was now a spark of shock and hope in his gaze at the mention of his sister.
Unlike me, he’ll be safe around her.A shitty thought, but true nonetheless. The girl I had fallen in love with was long gone, and the moment she pulled the trigger, killing my brother, I knew just how different she was. Nic had warned me, hell, the men had told me as well, but I couldn’t let go of the girl I remembered.
Christopher had left me alone in this room for a few hours after raping me for the first time. During that time, I had caught Thomas up on the fact that his sister was looking for him and made him memorize the names of her men or others he could trust. Because as much as I wanted to kill Nic right now, as much as I hated her, I wouldn’t take it out on Thomas. I’d help him get away even if it cost me my life.
Even after everything, you still love her.I pushed that thought away. There was no way I could love her. I would hold that lie close until I couldn’t anymore.
Smack.
Blood pooled in my mouth as my head whipped to the side, then rough hands grabbed my face, forcing me to look at Christopher.
“How are you so sure?”
“Pregnancy test. Doctor visits. Morning sickness,” I mumbled as he shook me. There was no reason to hold back any of the information. I needed him angry. I needed him distracted to have my plan work out.Just a little bit longer.
“Finally,” Christopher replied gleefully, and a horrible smile filled his face as he let me go. “I knew she would be able to breed again.”Again? My thoughts must have been clear on my face because Christopher chuckled tauntingly. “She already has a child, Wrenn, a son actually. In fact, it’s someone you know very well.”
A slight wave of his hand indicated Thomas. The boy was sitting there, deathly pale, his wide eyes staring at Christopher. What the actual fuck?!
“Don’t look so worried!” Christopher grinned at the boy. “I’m not your father. That was Joe’s doing… Got Nicholette and became obsessed. Miranda was always a fucking frigid bitch. Couldn’t manage to have a baby, though she put her body through hell trying. Found a doctor who made all the legal documents be in her name, and there you have it… Miranda had you, not their nine year old daughter.”
My stomach lurched, tears stinging my eyes as I thought of Nic. Did she know about this? If she did, she was one of the best actors I’d ever seen. She loved Thomas, but I’d had no idea, none, that he was actually her son.
“That can’t be—” Thomas mumbled.
Christopher just laughed. “Of course it is. But don’t worry, you’ll be seeing her soon enough. Between finally confirming she’s pregnant and everything that’s happened, I’m going to get her. I’m done playing nice, and I’mverysick of waiting.”
“This is nice?” I asked, unable to hold my tongue.
“You’re still alive,” he crooned, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw Thomas shifting. He was careful to limit his movements, making sure he didn’t give away that his ropes had been loosened. Christopher had been sloppy in leaving us alone. He’d counted on my broken bones to stop me from being able to give Thomas any aid, but I’d swallowed the pain and forced myself over to the boy so I could work on his bindings.
I need to keep Christopher distracted so Thomas can get away.
