“You know as well as I do, there’s always a way in. You just have to find the weakness.”
My phone vibrates and we both glance down. Dylan’s eyes rise back to mine and a smile spreads. “Speaking of the woman of the moment.”
I snatch up my phone like my life depends on it.
Cupcake:I’m sorry to tell you it didn’t work again
Cupcake:I got my period *crying emoji*
My expression must give away my thoughts. “What’s wrong?”
“She’s not pregnant.”
Dylan’s expression turns somber. “Sorry. But I guess it means you’ll still get to see her, right?” He widens his eyes and raises his eyebrows. “Just like you wanted.”
I blow out a harsh breath, rubbing my hand across my mouth. “Yes and no. I want her to get pregnant, but I don’t want to stop seeing her.” My phone buzzes again.
Cupcake:I’m sorry. If you want to rescind your offer, I completely understand
I must have taken too long to respond and she’s taking it as a lack of interest.
Me:I’m not going anywhere until you’re pregnant
“That’s where you’re going wrong, AJ,” Dylan states adamantly as he points to my screen.
“What do you mean?”
“You just told her you’re not going anywhereuntilshe’s pregnant.” He studies me closely, but I’m still lost. He shakes his head. “When you say it like that, it sounds like you only want to be involveduntilshe’s pregnant, and then you’re done. No wonder she’s as closed off as she is. She doesn’t think there’s actually a relationship between the two of you. Well, nothing beyond getting her pregnant.”
Shit! “I thought I was doing the right thing because she doesn’t seem to want a partner, only a donor.”
“I think you might need to have a chat.”
I nod. “Yeah. I think you might be right.”
Cupcake:Thank you. I’ll let you know when I’m ovulating again
Me:I have a tracker on my phone. I know when you’re due to ovulate but I think we need to talk
The dots bounce up and down. They stop. And it takes so long for something to happen that my screen locks.
“Well, that’s not good. I say we need to talk and she disappears.”
“She probably thinks it’s weird that you’re tracking her cycle, man.” He scoffs.
I frown. “What’s weird about it? I needed to keep track if I’m going to help her properly. Last month I was out of town and had to fly back. I’m trying to avoid those situations.”
“I guess so. But it’s a bit weird.”
CHAPTER23
–sarah–
He wants to talk.Shit!I run my hands through my hair, grasping the strands tightly on either side of my head.
Does he want out of this arrangement?
Calm down, Sarah. He also said he wasn’t going anywhereuntilI was pregnant. The muscle in my chest spasms at the thought of getting my dream but not seeing the man I spend way too much time thinking about. The man I’m falling for.
