“Okay. I’ll go order.”

She smiles at me and then lays her head on the table, closing her eyes. I’ll bet anything she’s asleep by the time I get back to the table. While I’m waiting in line to place our order, my phone buzzes and my smile is immediate. I bet it’s AJ checking on me. He does it at random times of the day now, instead of in the evenings. He said he wants to keep me on my toes. I liked the predictability of his text arriving in the evening, but I have to admit the randomness of his messages makes things more interesting.

AJ:How are you feeling?

My smile widens. Even though he’s mixed up the times he sends his message, the actual message remains the same.

Me:I’m fine. Nothing’s changed since yesterday

AJ:That’s great news

I’m not sure what he thinks is supposed to be happening at this point in my cycle. It’s not like I’m going to know anything until I get or skip my period.

AJ:Have you spoken with your sister?

Shit! Is something wrong with Em? I know Theo and AJ exchanged numbers last weekend to organize the delivery of Colton’s climbing wall but has something happened?

Me:Not today. Why what’s happened?

AJ:Nothing. I’m going there this afternoon to attach the climbing holds to the wall

AJ:I was wondering if you were going to be there

Hmmm. Maybe I should message Em.

Me:Hey, what time is AJ coming over?

Em:Hey. I’ll check with Theo, hang on

I move to the front of the line and place my order and then head back to my table while I wait for Em’s text. Sure enough, my best friend in the entire world is sound asleep. Her cute little snores are a dead give away and I chuckle quietly. I’ll let her sleep until our order arrives.

Em:He’s coming around 2. They’ve got some stuff to attach to the wall, then they’re going to take it to his sister’s place

Me:Thanks

Em:Are you coming over?

Me:Maybe

Em:You should. It’s pretty hot outside, the guys may have to remove their shirts while they work *winking emoji* *hot emoji*

I giggle.

Me:Okay, you’ve convinced me. I’ll come over

Em:Great. See you then

I flick to AJ’s messages.

Me:I’ll see you at my sister’s

AJ:How about I pick you up?

Oh God! I don’t know how I’ll manage being trapped in a confined space with the man and his sexy scent.

AJ:We could maybe grab some dinner after we drop off the climbing wall for Colton

AJ:It would be a good opportunity for you to meet Hayley and Lisa
