‘No.’ That would have been at least fifty percent more convincing if I didn’t squawk like a stepped-on bird. I clear my throat. ‘Shut up. Maybe.’

Moira smirks. ‘About Carter or Killian? Because whoever it was sounded like they knew what they were doing!’

I flap my hands at her. ‘Would you shush!’

‘You did have sex with Carter, didn’t you?’

I lower my gaze. ‘Yes. I did.’

‘Well, how was it?’ There’s no judgment in her questions. We always knew we would talk about this stuff when we found our mates.

‘I… it was like my wolf couldn’t get enough of him. And I wanted him too, I just… I guess I didn’t realise why it didn’t feel quite right.’ I fidget with my hands in my lap to give me something to focus on. ‘It was good but… He didn’t pleasure me. That’s what Killian was doing to me in that dream. Carter just—’

‘Came and left?’ Moira could barely control her expression.

I toss a pillow at her. ‘Basically. He has a girlfriend. He was just…’ I wave my hand. ‘But in that dream.’ My cheeks heat. ‘I guess I didn’t realise what I was missing.’

‘Girl!’ Moira squeals. ‘Tell me everything. Was he rough or gentle? Did he use his fingers or his tongue?’

‘Yes and yes and yes and yes.’

Moira looks at me, deadpan. ‘This is not a one-word answer discussion, Katie. Don’t be a prude. I need details.’

‘Who are you calling prude, virgin? Unless you and that Earth guy fucked?’

Moira blushes, smiling. ‘I wish. I had this… I don’t know. I felt weirdly drawn to him.’

‘So, where is he now?’

Moira shrugs. ‘I don’t know. He must have gone home.’ An undercurrent of sadness laces her words, and I can tell there was a real connection there.

Moira reaches out and takes my hand. ‘You’re looking better today. Those bruises are gone.’

Oh. I’d forgotten all about my injuries from Courtney. I touch my ribs, but they barely sting. ‘I like wolf healing.’

Moira pauses. ‘So, are you and Killian going to you know?’

‘Oh, sure, if you wouldn’t mind just grabbing a separate room… I don’t know!’ I laugh. ‘I barely know him.’

‘Aren’t you attracted to him?’

Without missing a beat, ‘Fuck, yes.’

Moira just nods. ‘Too soon, hon?’

I nod. ‘For now.’

‘What’s too soon for now?’

Moira gives Killian what I’m now dubbing her standard look for my mate.

Killian raises his hands innocently. ‘Sorry.’ His gaze slides to me. ‘Hey. Good morning.’ He sets down a couple of paper bags which smell like pastries. ‘Sorry you woke up and I wasn’t here.’

‘I don’t think she noticed,’ Moira says. ‘She seemed very happy.’

I glare at her. Traitor. But she just giggles.

‘What does that mean?’ Killian says with a wry smile.
