‘Stop,’ I croak, my body swaying.
Jana turns, and I see Jaken and Divina, too.
‘Make Cai stop,’ I tell the Dark Witch weakly.
She doesn’t question me, just strides between the vampire and the alpha before they can tear each other apart. Raising her hands, she forces them apart and they both hiss, spit and growl.
Mordecai turns to me, his gaze catching on the bite on my wrist. He lets loose a howl.
My eyes fall closed as our bond flares to life, thrumming with pain and rage. Whatever wall I had raised between us crumbles. Mordecai pushes past Divina’s magic—I catch the surprise in the witch’s eyes—as he lunges for Callen, a vampire I know to be hundreds of years old. Powerful.
Darkness swims around me as the vampire yells, and a wolf’s growl sounds, as teeth meet flesh.
