The release Lily had spoken of sounded exactly like the type I needed—desperately. A flashing memory of blue eyes and double dimples nearly knocked the breath from me. Mr. Gorgeous Model-Man had seemed privy to Lily and Adam’s late night, the twinkle in his eyes revealing he too, knew of the Laurents’ secret lifestyle.

My heart raced at the sudden thought of his offering me the type of release Lily spoke of, fluttering a million butterflies through my stomach.

Sure, I had experienced the meet-cute of a lifetime, but he could have his pick of model-thin celebrities. Nothing about my frump and fluffy middle would entice such a man.

You don’t have time for such shenanigans, anyway, I reminded myself while swallowing against the thickness in my throat. Your life’s course has been laid out by fate—and you love your sister and the memory of Mom too much to veer from it.

Chapter Three

Jordan

“Who is she?” I asked while lifting my coffee mug to my lips.

“Hmm?” Adam glanced up from the pile of scrambled eggs on his plate, his brow raised. “Who?” he asked around a mouthful of food.

“The dark-haired woman with all the curves. Natalie.” The woman who had snagged my attention in a way no woman had for years. Shy, seemingly sweet, and deliciously curvy.

His gaze narrowed as he chewed, studying my face. “Lily’s personal assistant.”

“That’s what she told me, but who is she?”

Still studying me, Adam wiped his mouth with a napkin, a knowing glint appearing in his eyes. “Caretaker to her younger sister who just graduated from high school. Sole provider for their family of two. Hard worker, quiet—a natural submissive.”

“You’re sure on that last bit?”

“I’d wager my fortune.”

Truth, then. My cock twitched. “What happened to the parents?” I asked rather than zone in on his assurance of her sexuality.

“Car accident a few years back.”

“Did they leave the girls with any sort of inheritance?”

“A savings account that saw them through the first year, but that’s it.” Adam cleared his throat. “Her father was an alcoholic—it was his fault their car flipped, killing him on impact, his wife two days later from sustained injuries.”

My lips pursed as I ignored the plate of food in front of me. While my heart went out to the girl, if Natalie knew who I was—if she found out I was British peerage if I decided to show interest—she would latch on like a leach to suck money out of me, same as all the rest.

“Lily tells me that Natalie blames herself for his drinking—the accident, as well,” Adam said, jerking my focus back on his face.

“Why?”

“I guess she was a needy child—colicky, Natalie called it. Her father started to drink because she cried incessantly.”

My brow furrowed. “My mother called me the same as a baby, but neither of my parents took to liquor because of it.”

“Narcissistic pricks love to place blame on others for their weaknesses.” The son of such a man, Adam would know. “She’s got major baggage,” he continued, studying me. “Still interested?”

“In what?” Garret interjected as he walked into the dining room.

“Jordan wants to tie up my wife’s secretary.”

I shot a glare at Adam as our friend sat across from me. “What?”

Grinning, he shrugged. “A woman snags your attention, the first thing your mind goes to is tying her down and teasing the shit out of her.”

The man knew me too well.

“Ask her to join us tonight,” Garret suggested.
