Do I trust him? I’ve never had sex with someone without a condom. Do I trust him to do it? His hand moves down my stomach. I go to speak when I hear a knock on the door.
“Ethan, did you forget we have a meeting today?” I hear his mom’s voice. Ethan looks at the clock on the nightstand.
“Crap. I’ve never overslept before.” He turns to me with a smile. “Do you realize our clothes from last night are in the hallway? The same hallway my mother just walked past,” he tells me. I can feel my face burning with embarrassment. “You look so cute when you blush.” Kissing me, he gets off me and out of bed, padding to the bathroom.
Great. I have to face her, knowing she’s aware of what we did last night. Pulling the covers over my face, I hear Ethan walk back in, and pull some clothes out from his drawer. “Come on, I’ll make breakfast.” He pulls the covers off me and takes his phone off the nightstand.
“Ethan,” I call out to him as he walks towards the door. He stops and turns to face me. “I trust you.” He was willing to pay four million dollars to date me. Now that he has me, he won’t be messing anything up between us.
“If you want me to wear them, I will. You don’t have to just because…”
“I’m not. I have a feeling you wouldn’t do anything to hurt me,” I say, sitting up in bed with the covers pulled up. “You’re the last person I want to hurt,” he says, walking back over to me. “My mom always told me, ‘Ethan, the riskiest thing you will do in your lifetime is let yourself fall in love.’ I’ve never fallen in love, but if you’re that risk, I’m taking it.”
I think my heart just melted. Ethan wipes the tear off my cheek. “I’ll make breakfast while you shower.” Giving me another kiss, he leaves the bedroom.
I’ve never had anyone say anything like that to me, ever, and I’m lost in Ethan. I can’t get enough of him.
Once I'm dressed, I head to the kitchen. I can hear Ethan and his mom talking. I hear the name, Edward, a few times. They both stop talking as soon as I walk in.
“Hello,” I look over at his mom.
“Morning Lexi,” she says with a smile.
I look around the room. “Don’t worry, your Jimmy’s are fine.” Ethan points to my shoes with humor in his tone as I look at him.
“I wasn’t looking for them,” I tell him, and he holds my stare for a moment. “I was looking for… Shut up,” I say walking over to the table where breakfast is all plated up.
“I was asking Ethan if you would both like to come over tonight for a BBQ.” Lisa looks over at me. There's something different about this look, but I’m not sure what it is. What did Ethan tell her before I came out of the bedroom? I look at Ethan sitting next to me.
“That would be nice,” I tell her, drinking my coffee. I look at them staring at each other for a moment. I think I’ve walked into the middle of their meeting. Taking a plate full of food, I say, “I’ll let you talk. I’m going to chat with Joe, then call my boss.” I can’t tell her who my boss is; that would be just wrong and a conversation that I don’t want.
“Who's Joe?” she asks Ethan as I put my cup and plate in the sink.
“The doorman downstairs,” he replies.
Looking back as I walk over to the door, I give him a smile. I know the conversation they're going to have, all business. I could stay and listen to what they're saying, but I'm not going to. I haven't seen Joe in a while, but more importantly, Ethan hasn't asked me to stay. Plus, his whole family think I'm this gold digger, and that makes me uncomfortable.

“I figured you woke up and realized you could do better than Mr. Knight.” Joe smiles at me as I sit on the chair next to him behind the desk.
“If I left, who would you gossip with?” I put the plate of food on the desk. “Plus, I don’t think Ethan’s that bad,” I say, with a laugh. I sent Ms. Jackie a message on my way down asking her to call me when she got a minute.
“I do like your company.”
We spend a good hour talking about nothing really, mostly his family. I told him a little about mine, but nothing too in-depth. It’s not that I don’t trust him, I just don’t want him to feel sorry for me.
My phone rings and I look to see Ms. Jackie’s name flashing on my screen. “Hi,” I say, walking outside the building.
“Lexi, how are we?”
“I’m good. I wanted to talk to you about the whole Sam situation.” I look around the street.
“Are you leaving?”
“Well, that’s the thing. Dan and Jon don’t want me to leave, and Ethan doesn’t either. But, if I stay here, Sam will show his face—I know he will. So, I want to start working again. Just one client, so my face will be shown in different states and he will think I’ve left here,” I tell her. I’ve been thinking about it a lot since everyone wants me to stay here.
“I don’t think Ethan will agree to that.”
