“I love you too,” I say for the first time, and he rolls off me but takes my face in his hands and kisses me deeply. Then he pulls me closer to him and settles us into bed. Placing my head on his chest, I listen to the beat of the heart, which has taken over my life.

Listening to the soft peaceful sound of his beat, I wrap my arm over his chest, and slowly fall asleep.

Chapter Nineteen

Aiden

“How long until the app can go out for trail?” I ask David while I walk around the room, looking at the data which has been given to me. The last few days have been crazy. I have an app to finish, and I also know I need to be here to finish it, but all I want to do is be home with Saylor. She’s been at my place most of the time and home when Hayley has been having a bad day, which is another thing I wanted to talk to her about. I want her to move in with me, Hayley too. From what I know, Hayley likes her independence, and I like that idea, so I’ve been looking at a two-bedroom apartment for her. It’s only a 10-minute walk away from the house, so if anything goes south, Saylor can go over without worrying. That is on my list to talk to Saylor about, but I want her to live with me. She’s carrying my baby, and I want to be there every step of the way.

“We can get the trail started next week. I have ten people lined up, and they have all signed the contract, so nothing to worry about,” David tells me, and I continue to look through the numbers.

So far, everything looks like it’s going to have no problems, but until I don’t see the results, I won’t be celebrating.

Fair hasn’t dared coming close to me again, once I got my lawyers involved, and told them what they had done. So now if he comes close to me or Saylor, I can have him arrested, because we had all the proof we needed, and I also added that he can no longer speak to me, everything going through my lawyers.

“Well, if anything fucks up, it’s your head on the line,” I reply. I hate when he’s this confident because something always fucks up.

“No, this app will be live on time.” David pats my shoulder, and I pass him the file back, looking over at my office to see Lee waiting in there for me.

“When did he get here?” I ask David.

He never called or messaged me to say he was coming over to the office.

“About ten minutes ago.” I hear David behind me, and I leave the room and head right to my office.

“Hey, what brings you here?” I ask Lee, then cloud the windows so no one can see in.

“I thought I would make sure you’re still coming to family dinner, and not getting out of it.” I start laughing, because I was going to think of something to get out of it, but I haven’t for two reasons.

One, my brother needs me there to tell our parents about his girlfriend, and two, I need to tell them about Saylor.

I’m not going to keep Saylor or my baby a secret, so my mother might have a heart attack tonight, because both her sons are about to tell her news she doesn’t want to hear, and news she will hate. Mostly because neither of us are going to be marrying Cathy.

“I’m still coming. Saylor and Zhi coming together?” I ask.

I was thinking they come with us, but Lee said we need to ease them into the conversation, and not shock our mother straight away. He’s going to tell my parents he’s moving back to the UK to get them all happy before we both drop the bombs on them. My dad will be happy for both of us, so it will be our mother who will hate us.

“Yes. I’ve spoken to both of them, and they will be coming at seven, so they are there for dinner. Please tell me you're scared to tell them about Saylor, and I’m not overthinking this.” Lee leans forward and grabs his water bottle, taking a big sip off it.

“Well, mother thinks Saylor is a call girl I pay, so I don’t think you have too much to worry about. And she likes to wind Mum up too, so I’m more scared with what comment Saylor will have to say.” This makes Lee laugh, because he knows I’m right.

The last few days, Lee and Zhi have been over every night, and I’m so happy to know that Lee likes Saylor. It would have been horrible if he hated her.

He said even though in age she is young, her soul isn’t. She’s got get life together, she knows about responsibilities, and he loves that she just tells me to fuck off.

“Zhi laughed, saying that she already knows Mum will like her more, and I had to agree with her,” Lee tells me, and I call David to tell him to get two coffees for us, and he can join us too.

“Is it bad that Saylor won’t even care if Mum hates her?” I ask. Saylor might not care, but I do. I mean, even if Mum hates her to the point she says Saylor isn’t welcome in the house, I won’t go over either, but I still want my family to like her to make things better for Saylor.

“Saylor has enough on her plate to care what others think. I don’t blame her. She wants to enjoy her life when she can.” Lee looks over to David walking in and sits down with us. “Saylor looks after her sister, worries about her sister twenty-four seven, she doesn’t have time for others’ opinions. All she needs to know is that you love her and will always have her back when she needs it.”

“And I will, but no matter what happens tonight, Mum is still going to hate her. And it’s going to be a fight,” I say. I thought Lee telling Mum about Zhi was going to be an even fight, but I’m losing. I will always pick Saylor, and I don’t care if that means I upset anyone.

“It’s going to be interesting. Are you sure you need me there?” David asks, making both Lee and I laugh.

I don’t need him there, but I thought instead of him calling me to get out of dinner when things get too much, I’m going to have him there and act like there is a big emergency and I have to leave.

Yes, that makes me a wimp, but I’m not letting anyone upset Saylor, and if that means leaving to keep her safe, then so be it.
