“Aiden, everything okay, where is Saylor?”
I walk to the laptop. “She’s sleeping. She came over, didn’t want to talk, just wanted sex, that’s it.” I rub my forehead, not sure what this means. Is she taking me back? Was this just a one-night thing for her?
“Calm down, Aiden. Look at me,” Lee tells me, and I stop pacing in front of the laptop. I turn to face him, leaning my hands on the counter. “She came to you when she needed to feel safe, when she needed to feel loved, so remember that.” I take in a deep breath and shake my head at him. “Aiden, she came to you, reme-” I walk away from the laptop when I see Saylor by the door.
“Saylor.” I walk over to her as she puts her shoes on. “Where are you going?” I go to touch her, but she pulls away from me. “Saylor?”
“I’m not going to say it was a mistake coming here, because it wasn’t. But it doesn’t chang-”
“Saylor, please, just... I love you. Not being able to be with you-”
“Aiden”—she shakes her head, taking in a deep breath with her eyes closed, and I wipe the tear away from her cheeks—“I’m not ready to forgive you... and maybe you’re right, I’m too young…” She stops again, then opens her eyes to look at me. “My life isn’t simple, and I don’t have the energy to prove myself to you, or to your mother.” She leans in closer to me and gives me a kiss. “Goodbye, Aiden.”
She opens the front door, and at the perfect timing, my mother is standing there. Saylor walks past her, and I run out after her.
“Saylor, I will-”
“Aiden, let her go, h-”
“Not now, mum, get in the house,” I shout at her and run towards the taxi to stop her. I just need her to listen to me. “Saylor, please. I fucked up, but I promise I will never hurt you again, ever. I love you.” I stand next to the taxi, and without looking at me, she shuts the door.
I stand there for a moment, letting the rain fall down on me, but I don’t care. She’s gone, she said goodbye, and meant it.
Making my way back into the house, I hear my mum and Lee fighting, and I already know she’s going to start on me when she’s finished with him.
I grab the whiskey bottle, and a glass, then take a shot before walking towards them and getting in view so Lee knows I’m here. He looks over, and I shake my head letting him know Saylor left.
“Has Aiden told you about the charity Cathy is-”
“I haven't told him, had other things on my mind,” I cut her off, before she can start moaning about it to me.
“I’m not surprised, since you’ve been messing around with-”
“Stop before you finish the sentence, mother,” Lee tells her. I don’t say anything and watch them both staring at each other. “You need to stop pushing Cathy on either of us. I’m not interested, and neither is Aiden, so stop.”
“You can’t talk to me like that, you run away to, who knows where. Never call me to see how I am, and now you think you can tell me to stop talking and tell my son the truth. That young woman was only after his money and nothing else. And I’m not going to cry over it-”
“When you two have finished, mum, see yourself out. Lee, I will call you later,” I tell them both as I leave the kitchen and head upstairs, away from them both.
I’m not in the mood to listen to my mother moan about shit I don’t care about. The only person I care about right now is Saylor, and how I’m going to win her back. I don’t care how long it takes me.
Chapter Sixteen
Saylor
It’s been a long week. The funeral was everything my dad wanted it to be. Uncle Ryan made sure he got everything he wanted. Hayley’s had a lot more downs than ups, and it’s drained everything out of me. To a point I’m not even sure I would be able to walk without the caffiene running through my bloodstream.
Uncle Ryan had to leave for duty again and called this morning to let me know he had got there safe, and that he would be calling me just like my dad used to. I told him he didn’t need to, but he told me my dad would never forgive him if he didn’t look after my sister and I.
I haven’t been able to get back into my classes or one-on-one clients either, as I don’t have the energy to do so. I’ve finally started getting back into yoga at home for myself, which has been helping me get through the days.
Aiden’s been sending me flowers every day, and I’ve been thinking about him so much and what I want to do. He told me he loved me, he told me he didn’t mean what he said, and it all might be true, but I can’t forget him saying those things to me.
I turn to the door and see Anika coming back from work. She has been so busy with this new app but is under strict rule that she’s not allowed to talk to anyone about it. So I still don’t know what this app is, but Anika has told me it’s going to be amazing.
“How are you feeling today?” Anika asks, sitting on the couch in front of me.
I’ve been feeling like shit for two weeks now, and I just put it down to everything going on with losing my dad, and Hayley stressing me out so much.
