“Oh, is this a business emergency you need to leave for?” Vic asks in a tone full of BITCHY.

“No, as you can see, David is here, so if anything comes up, he will be going,” I snap back at her and open the message.

Saylor - I will be coming, but I will be coming after Zhi. Something came up.

Aiden - Is Hayley okay?

I ask, already knowing that would be the reason for her coming late, and I suppose it’s something I will have to deal with.

Saylor - Yes, just having a little meltdown. The caretaker is here now, so will be leaving soon.

Aiden - See you in a bit. I love you.

Saylor - I love you too x.

I lean closer to Lee to tell him what's happening, and he shows me the message from Zhi saying she is outside.

Lee gets of the sofa and goes to let her in, and I get ready to help my brother out because, fuck, is he going to need it, and I need him to have my back too.

“Who’s at the door?” my mum yells, and I look over when Lee walks back in with Zhi next to him. My dad turns to face me, but I don’t look at him and keep my eyes on Lee.

“Mum, Dad, this is Zhi, my girlfriend,” Lee tells everyone, and I nod, saying well done. He just went for it, ripped the plaster off fast. “She’s moving to England to be with me, and she’s also a doctor-”

“Did you know about this?” my mum snaps, and I look over at her staring at me with fire in her eyes.

“I did, and I can’t believe he got someone so beautiful. I mean-”

“And you never told us.”

“No.” I get up and give Zhi a hug. I wrap my arm around her shoulder to show the family I’m sticking with my brother and his happiness.

I see my dad walk over to us, and for a moment, he just stares at her.

“I agree with Aiden, you’re too beautiful for my son.” Zhi starts laughing, and then dad turns to Lee. “You did good, son.” He pats his arm, then gives Zhi a hug.

We already knew Dad would be okay with this. The only thing he’s ever wanted for us was to be happy, and in the thirty seconds she has been here, he sees Zhi makes Lee happy.

Dad sits back down, and we all look over at Mum, who hasn’t moved and is just staring at Zhi and Lee walking back to the sofa to sit down, but we already knew she’d act like that.

“So, Zhi, what do you do?” my dad asks. Because mum won’t be talking to anyone just yet, and Saylor isn’t even here yet.

“I’m an ER surgeon, hoping to get a job at the same hospital as Lee,” she replies, and I pull out my phone to see if Saylor has messaged me again, but nothing.

I hope everything is okay, and nothing to stress her out too much. We went to see a doctor a few days ago, and everything looked great. The doctor said Saylor was a healthy, fit woman, and there is nothing to worry about. I could see Saylor relax when she told us, but I could still see something was playing on her mind, and I didn’t want to ask. Because I already knew what it was. Saylor will continue to worry about our baby and the whole personality until the doctors can be one million percent sure there is nothing to be concerned about. No matter how much Lee, Zhi, and I have told her she has nothing to worry about. But when you’ve been looking after your sister since the age of eighteen, and have had no life outside of her and her needs, I understand the concerns, and I’m going to make sure I can do everything I can to make Saylor feel like she has nothing to worry about.

Chapter Twenty

Saylor

I knew tonight was going to be the night Hayley was going to be out of control. All week, she has been amazing, my sister, my little sister laughing and joking, but today, today had to be the day she wanted to be a pain.

I got to tell my sister she was going to be an aunt, and I haven’t seen her so happy in a long time. The last few days weren’t filled with fights over something stupid, they were spent sitting down together and planning a nursery. She even asked what was happening with Aiden and I, and if we were going to get married, or if we were moving in together. Questions I didn’t have answers to, because we haven’t spoken about anything like that yet. Have I thought about those things? Yes. But I’m not going to mention that to Aiden. Telling him I was pregnant was a shock, so wanting to move in together or get married might scare him altogether.

I pay the taxi driver and send Aiden a quick message to tell him I’m here and ready to be belittled by everyone.

I walk over to the house and smile, standing still for a moment to admire him in his suit. Oh, how I wish he was wearing jeans and a t-shirt, showing off the sexy ink I love so much.

“Do I pass?” Aiden asks with a smile as he checks me out.
