“Get out of the fucking office. You remember the thing outside? It’s called fresh air,” David tells me as he walks into the office. I changed my glass to glazed, so that everyone knew I was working and not to disturb me.
“My glass is still glazed,” I tell him as I continue to work, but stop as he turns my screen to see what I’m doing.
“I wanted to make sure you were still breathing, as it’s been thirteen hours. I mean, you have to fucking eat.”
“You know that I have a fridge in here, and if you were that worried, you would have come in earlier,” I tell him as I grab my phone. Since I started working on the app, I’ve not even looked at my phone. Just me and the computer, in the zone, doing the thing I’ve always loved.
“I’ve sent the staff an email, saying they are to be back to work tomorrow. So is this one finished?” David sits down and starts looking through what I’ve done so far.
“Anika doesn’t have much work to do.” I thought maybe Saylor would have messaged me, saying things have changed and we can meet up, but nothing. But after the day I’ve had, I’m going over to see her anyway.
David turns the computer off and walks to the front of the desk. “Go home, and if by some miracle, wake up at a normal hour,” David tells me as he begins cleaning my desk, and just waits for me to leave the office. He's in that mood, so I know he won’t go anywhere until I do.
I take my coat from the back of my chair. “I will be here my normal time.” I walk past him towards the door.
“If even Saylor isn’t keeping you happy in bed, you have a problem.” I burst out laughing at David’s comment, because now that’s something worth laughing about.
“If she didn’t keep me happy in bed, would I bother to see her again? No. But if you must know, she is fucking amazing in bed, and that is all I’m saying.” Opening the door to my office, I turn to face him again. “The reason I will be here is because she wakes up before I do,” I tell him.
Now I didn’t think anyone in the world woke up before I did, but someone who has so much drive to make something of their life, will wake up any time in the world to make it happen.
“You two early birds are made for each other,” I hear him say behind me as I walk out of the office and make my way to Saylor’s house.
After the day and night I’ve had, I just need to see her, and talk, talk about anything in the world.
Chapter Nine
Saylor
“Are you fucking kidding me? I’ve done everything,” I yell at my sister.
Today has been one fucked up day, and my head hurts. The only thing I want to do is scream at her. Fuck, at anyone. And then to top it off, my dad still hasn’t called to say he’s safe.
“You do know it’s your fault-”
“Everything is always my fucking fault. You’re little miss sunshine and never do anything wrong,” I scream at her as I go to walk out of the garden house, but she pulls my arm, causing me to stumble.
“One day, Saylor, you’re going to-”
“Going to what? You know, because of you, I’ve lost a full day of work, so do me a favor for the rest of the night. Fuck off.” I slam the door as I leave, making sure she knows that I want to be left alone, but I hear the door open behind me.
“That’s what you want, you want me to leave,” she yells at me.
“Go to sleep.” Without looking back at her, I walk into the house, and Jason wraps his arms around me. I know they heard the fight, as they normally do, and then they’re there to pick up the pieces.
“You have a visitor, and he heard the last part,” Jason whispers to me.
I’m sure I told him that I didn’t want to see him today, but it looks like he has his own plans. I take the wineglass and drink it one go. God, I’ve needed this today.
“I thought I cancelled,” I tell him as my eyes roam over his body. It’s only been a day, and I have to admit, I’ve missed looking at him. As my eyes reach his face, he smiles.
“You did,” he answers as he starts checking me out. “I thought maybe we could have pizza.”
“Not tonight. It’s been one fucked up day, and sex isn’t really in my plan right now,” I answer, shaking my head. I check my phone again, and there is still nothing from my dad.
“I never said sex, I said pizza.” He stands in front of me, and placing his finger under my chin, he lifts my face so I can look into his eyes. I feel the tears escape, the emotions running through my body, even I don’t know where I am. Tried, worried, angry, sad.
