Chapter Eight
Aiden
As I walk into the building, I head up the stairs, and the first thing I notice is that it’s empty. Where the hell is everyone? Now I know that no one is ever here before me, but the marketing team should be here. But they’re not.
As I make my way to the office, I call David, and he answers on the first ring. “Where the fuck is the marketing team?” Boosting up my computer, I throw my bag on the floor.
“I told them that it’s back to normal ho-”
“And why the fuck did you tell them that?”
“They need to sleep, fucking shower-”
Ending the call, I can’t be bothered to listen to any of the shit he has to say to me. I’m already annoyed at David, because he better be right about Anika being able to do this app, otherwise the whole marketing team is fired, and I don’t care what he has to say about it.
My eyes glance over to a file from the marketing team, and I can’t help but laugh. They think they have a plan, a plan that will get me all my money back. Idiots, they don’t know anything. Bet they’ve just put something stupid together, hoping they can have their life back.
I look over at the time. There are still a few hours before the staff get here. Then I check the time in China, as I told Lee that I would call him when I get into the office and have a moment to chat.
I wait for him to answer the call and take a sip of my coffee. “Hey,” I say, moving my screen a little so that I’m in view.
“Took your time calling me.” He starts laughing as he mocks my lack of communication with him, but I have been busy. “So what has you so busy?”
“Someone fucked up at work. Nothing to worry about.”
“I think you worry enough for the both of us. For a moment there, I thought you might have found a girl.”
I start laughing, because he’s one to talk. Before Zhi came into the picture, he travelled the world sleeping with one girl to the other. Even though I was just like that before, since meeting Saylor, I haven’t even thought about looking at someone else.
“Just because you’ve found the one, doesn’t mean I have. Did you call Mum?”
Before he went on his travelling adventure, he finished his studying and even paid off all the loans. He became a doctor, something he had always wanted to do, but it was a long journey, and towards the end, you could see he was becoming a different person. So when he said he wanted to go travelling, I told him the break would be good, then at least when he gets back, he’d have a career to slide back into.
“Yes, I called. The conversation lasted two minutes before letting me know how I’ve disappointed her.” He stops as I laugh out loud. That's our mother, straight to the point. “Shut up, she said she was disappointed in you too.”
“Why? I still go to dinner with them and call her every week.”
“The fact that you leave after ten minutes does not mean you go to dinner, and she is disappointed because of Cathy.”
I can’t help rolling my eyes. “So are you going to introduce me to your secret girlfriend?” I throw in the secret part on purpose, so he knows he's lying to our parents and can stop making me feel like shit about it.
“She’s not a secret. I’m not hiding her.” He looks to the side, as I look out of the glass window and see David walking over. I knew he would be here the moment I hung up on him. “Aiden, this is Zhi.” My eyes move back to the screen quickly, so I’m not being rude.
“Hello, Zhi. Now, how the hell did he get you to agree to date him?”
From all the girls I’ve seen pictures of, and there have been a few, only a handful I can honestly say I've been jealous of, as they looked like models. Zhi, well, she can easily be another one. I'm shocked he got her.
“Hello, Aiden, nice to finally meet you. Lee has spoken so much about you, always telling me stories when you were little. He speaks very highly of you.”
“Nice to meet you too. He was hiding you from me, since he knows that I'm the better-looking brother and was scared-”
“I was not scared, and we both know I'm the better-looking one,” Lee cuts me off, and Zhi starts laughing. “Plus, she would hate you. You work way too much. Ever heard of a day off?”
I look over to the door as David walks in. “One moment,” I tell them both.
“See, can’t even stop work to talk to his brother,” I hear Lee moan, and I shake my head at him.
I hand over the file the marketing team left on my desk. “Have you looked through this?” I ask him as he takes the file off me.
