My phone buzzes on the nightstand, and I manoeuvre around so that I can reach it while still holding my girl close with the other arm.

I squint as the screen lights up.

JOSH:Hope you’re alright, mate. Let me know if you need anything.

I should probably check on him, on the bar. That place was a wreck when I left.

“You okay?” Indie asks quietly, her voice still sleepy and soft.

Her hand gently rubs at the smattering of hair on my chest before moving to the tattoo I have for her over my heart.

I kiss the top of her head before replying. “Yeah, baby. Go back to sleep, okay? It’s still early. I’m going to check on the pub, see if Josh needs anything. I’ll bring us some breakfast when I’m done.”

“Work,” she mumbles.

“No work today. I’ll let Jag know we’re staying home.”

“Mmmm,” she hums, wiggling her body against mine. “Okay.”

She rolls off me after kissing my chest and snuggles into the pillow on her side of the bed. She’s asleep before I even manage to pull my pants on.

I close the door quietly and notice that Jagger's door is wide open, and his bed is still made.

I know he probably crashed at Matt’s last night, but I still shoot him a text as I brush my teeth to make sure he’s alright, and to let him know Indie and I won’t be in.

He replies within minutes, clearly already up and ready for the day.

JAG:I’m good. Figured as much. See you tonight.

While sliding on my shoes by the front door, a soft knock makes me look up. I straighten and pull it open to find Lana standing there, looking like she got little to no sleep, her eyes red and puffy.

“Lana.” I sigh, reach for her and pull her to my chest. “You look like shit.” I laugh, trying to lighten the mood as she wraps her arms around my middle and rubs my back in the motherly way she always has when I’ve had a bad day.

“You’re okay?” she asks, pulling back enough to look up at me.

I nod and smile, a genuine smile, because I am. I feel like last night was the turning point in everything. Now, there’s nothing but good ahead for all of us. “I’m good. I promise.”

She searches my eyes for a moment before she too smiles, accepting my answer as the truth. “Good,” she replies, her voice stronger now. “Indie still sleeping?”

I step back and she moves around me, into the house, but I stay in my place by the door. “Yep. I’m sure you could coax her out of bed with a cup of coffee, though. You know where everything is,” I say, nodding toward the kitchen. “I’m just ducking out. Be back in a couple of hours.” She looks worried again for a moment before I add, “Just going to clean up my mess and grab some food, Lana. Don’t worry.”

She shakes her head and winks at me before turning and walking toward the kitchen. “Fucking kids are going to send me into an early grave, I swear,” she mumbles under her breath.

I laugh as she disappears from the room and grab my keys.

As I step onto the porch and close the door behind me, gratitude overwhelms me for a moment.

I am so damn lucky to have Lana and Indie in my life.

???

The clean-up didn’t take as long as I thought it would, and Josh was more than happy to accept my help when I showed up.

After jumping in my car after just over an hour at the pub, I pull into Mrs Neil’s parking lot, my stomach growling from the smell of bacon and eggs as it wafts from the building.

Pushing open the door, my mouth salivates as the aroma increases.

Mrs Neil is running back and forth, frantically trying to pack six different paper bags as her customers wait to the side for their food.
