When their lips were touching, all her conflicting emotions would disappear, but it was only a mask.

Ricardo ran his thumb over her forehead. “What has you stressed?”

“What?”

“Your face is drawn like you’re overthinking something.”

“Oh.” Lisandra hadn’t realized she was letting her thoughts have free rein over her facial expressions. She used to be a magician when it came to disguising her true feelings in front of Jameson.

Ricardo moved his hand down and caressed her cheek. “You can say anything to me.”

“I was just thinking about how crazy it is,” she said.

He raised an eyebrow at her. “How crazy what is?”

All of her nerves drifted away when he looked at her with all the love in the world shining behind his bright blues, and she just blurted it out. “How deeply I’ve fallen in love with you in such a short time.”

His smile was so bright she swore it lit up the room. “I don’t think that is crazy at all,” he said. “In fact, it is the best thing I have ever heard.” He leaned his head down and placed a soft, lingering kiss against her lips. Lisandra closed her eyes and allowed herself to get lost in the warmth his kiss always wrapped her in, and she sighed when he pulled away, quickly missing the feeling of his mouth against her own. “And for the record,” he said, “I love you more than I ever thought it was possible for someone to love another person. So, no. I don’t think you’re crazy at all.”

Lisandra knew she should be more careful. That she shouldn’t keep giving her all to this man she had known for such a short time. More than anyone else, she knew the dangers of giving herself to a man before she really knew him. But something deep within her, something stronger than her heart, told her that she did know him in every way that really mattered. She had given Allison grief about her talk of soulmates, but she couldn’t deny that that was exactly what her connection with Ricardo felt like. She may not have known every detail about him and his life, but she knew their souls were connected.

She pushed herself up onto her knees and crawled up the bed over his body until they were face to face, and she straddled his waist with her legs pressed against his hips. Ricardo wrapped his hands around her thighs while she dipped her head down to his and pressed their mouths together. The kiss grew heated instantly, each of them opening up to the other, their tongues caressing and kissing like they just could not get enough of each other, and in truth that was just how Lisandra felt. She ran her hand down to his waist and gripped the bottom of his shirt, pulling it upwards. She sat up, breaking their kiss and breathing deeply.

Lisandra grabbed the hem of his shirt. “I want this off,” she said between sharp intakes of breath. “Need to feel you.”

Ricardo ripped his shirt over his head, then made quick work of removing hers along with her bra. Lisandra smiled. Two could play that game. In light speed she moved, removing the rest of their clothes, then she repositioned herself so she was straddling him again, skin to skin. Ricardo sat up, wrapped his arms around her, and held her body tight against his. Everywhere their bodies touched was like a fire burning through her, straight to her core. She pulled her head back just enough to separate their mouths.

“Need you,” she panted. “Now.”

Ricardo growled and rolled her onto her back. He held tight to her thighs, and she wrapped her legs around his waist, welcoming him. In one thrust he was inside her, filling her in the most exquisite way. Pleasure rippled through her core, spreading throughout her body and her back arched off the bed, causing her to open to him even more, allowing him to move deeper inside of her. Her body was vibrating, her climax already teetering on the edges of her pleasure.

She felt Ricardo’s warm breath against her ear. “Don’t come,” he groaned. “Wait for me.”

His words nearly had the opposite effect, and she clamped her legs tighter around his hips. He thrust inside her, hard and fast, and waves of pleasure washed over her body, and she felt like she was going to erupt beneath him.

Ricardo moved his hands up and beneath her and gripped her ass, changing the angle of his penetration. Her eyes shut and he swallowed her moan with his kiss. “Ahh,” she cried out, digging her nails into his shoulders.

“Ugh. You feel so good,” he groaned against her lips before sealing his mouth over hers again. He began thrusting harder and faster, his movements becoming frantic while his muscles grew taut beneath her fingertips. “Come, love. Now.”

That was all it took before Lisandra felt herself fall, and her climax exploded around his cock, and then he was still, his release filling her with warmth; his love warming her even deeper. She could practically feel their connection growing, their hearts and souls becoming one, entwining until it was impossible to know where he ended and she began. She was certain that there was no possible way for two people to be closer.

Rolling over, Ricardo pulled her close to his side and wrapped his arms around her and kissed the top of her head. “I love you.”

She smiled against his chest. “I love you, too.”

She snuggled closer to his chest, his heat warming her and making her feel truly safe for the first time in many years. Her eyes drifted shut, and she allowed herself to find sleep in the warm embrace of the man who had quickly become her other half.

Lisandrawoke up in the middle of the night, her thirst pulling her from a dead sleep. She smiled, thinking that the workout she and Ricardo had making love had left her famished. She was so thirsty she could swear she smelled the blood from the blood bags stored in the refrigerator. With her heightened sense of smell, she imagined it was possible. It was taking some time to get used to all her heightened abilities, even the more mundane ones, like being able to smell blood locked inside a refrigerator on the other side of Ricardo’s very large home.

Carefully, she crawled out of bed so she wouldn’t wake Ricard. She threw his shirt on before she made her way out of the bedroom. As soon as she stepped into the hallway, the smell of blood overwhelmed her. Clearly, she had waited too long between feedings. Ricardo had warned her she needed to feed often to keep the bloodlust under control, especially as a new vampire. The blood smelled so fresh. Her thirst was obviously messing with her head. She didn’t waste another second making her way to the kitchen, and she bit right into the first blood bag she grabbed with the refrigerator door still open.

She was more than halfway done with her third bag when the fresh blood scent suddenly grew in strength, making the cold bagged stuff she was drinking turn stale in her mouth. When she heard something moving behind her, she dropped the bag and turned, hands up and ready to fight. She saw the back of a blonde head and Melina flashed down the hall behind her, and with her went the smell of fresh blood. Lisandra rushed down the hall behind her, grabbed Melina’s shoulder and spun her around, slamming her back against the wall. The top of her yellow dress was stained red with blood.

“What the hell’s wrong with you?” Lisandra screamed in her face. “You can’t go one day without taking an innocent life, can you?”

Melina pushed her back and Lisandra allowed her to because if she didn’t take a step back, she was afraid Melina might not be the only one to take a life that night.
