Dressed in leggings and one of Lucas’s t-shirts, we arrived on the tarmac of the private plane Andrew had chartered for his sister and met them outside. The wind was freezing, even through the jacket Andrew had pushed on me.
Macy hurried over to me, her eyes wide as she grabbed my hand and pulled me aside.
I was self-conscious about my appearance and the visible love marks that I hadn’t been able to hide in time. “I’m sorry. I didn’t have—”
“I’m pregnant.” Her whispered words shut me right up. “I took a test this morning and it was positive. I think I’m fucking pregnant.”
I yanked her into me and screamed. Macy had wanted a family for as long as she’d been old enough to understand the birds and the bees. “Oh, Macy!”
She squeezed me and cried. “I haven’t told Jason yet. I just… I had to tell you. I’m going to be a mom.”
I cried right along with her and rocked her back and forth in a tight hug. “He’s going to die, Mace. You’re going to make him the happiest man ever.”
She pulled back to look at my face, and I could see the nerves there. She big her lip and nodded. “He’s going to be happy, right?”
I cupped her face and grinned. “He’s going to be more than happy, Mace. You’re going to make him a daddy.”
Her eyes flashed as her humor reappeared. “I made him daddy a long time ago.”
Laughing at the unexpected confession, I hugged her again. “You’re amazing. And you’re going to be the best momma ever.”
“Well, if we want our childhood plans to happen, you need to get pregnant right now.” She looked over my shoulder at her brothers. “With the way the four of you look this morning, maybe you already are pregnant.”
I swallowed so loudly that she heard it and laughed. “Um, no. Not pregnant. We got the shot together, remember?”
Macy grabbed my shoulders and stared at me with even wider eyes. “Sara! Did you hear what I said? I clearly did not get the shot with you.”
Panic washed over me as I nodded, trying to convince her of what I’d been sure of. “We went together and then got Mexican together after…”
“That was six months ago, Sara.”
I shook my head. “No. No, it was… It wasn’t that long ago.”
“We were both due for them two months ago, but you couldn’t get away from work, remember? You canceled on me. I’d planned on just getting the shot later, but I got busy with planning the wedding. Did you never go?”
My head spun. “Oh, shit.”
Jason called to us from next to the plane. “Come on, wife!”
Macy pulled me into yet another tight hug and exhaled into my hair. “It’s going to be okay. If you are pregnant, we’ll have our babies together. The execution is different than I thought it would be, but the outcome is the same.”
“How are you not freaking out about this?”
Laughing, Macy shrugged. “I’m freaking out about myself, but I thought about it more last night, and my brothers are making you my official sister. I’ll never thank them, but I’ll tell you that I’m grateful for that.”
My head spun even harder, and I stumbled with her back towards our men. Macy jumped into Jason’s arms and laughed as she wrapped herself around him. I had a feeling she’d forget ever feeling nervous about telling him as soon as she got on the plane. I, on the other hand, was in a full-on panic. I pushed my hair out of my face and tried to remember how to breathe.
“You okay?” Lucas wrapped his arm around my shoulders and pulled me into his side. “You look pale.”
“I’m fine.” My squeak of an answer was pathetic and it was clear that my guys knew something was wrong, but they didn’t pry at that moment.
We sent Macy and Jason off and then retreated from the cold into the SUV Andrew had ordered for us. I was in the back, between Warren and Lucas, while Andrew appeared to grow even larger in the front seat the longer the silence grew between us. Still, they didn’t try to make me tell them what was wrong. I felt like maybe I was playing it off better than I thought. Until we reached the resort and I was pulled into the closest space for privacy. It happened to be the ballroom that had been cleaned and put back in order after the wedding.
I held my breath as Andrew gave Lucas a look and then lifted me onto the stage at the front of the room. Standing between my thighs, he held my face and gently kissed me. “Talk.”
I shook my head.
Lucas came back and nodded to his brother. “Locked. Now, tell us what’s wrong, Cupcake.”
