Page 46 of Knot my Alphas

Stupid broken body, I silently curse at myself.

“Come on,” Caleb says, moving toward me. “Let’s get both of you to bed.”

I relent, allowing him to haul me into his arms. Iris follows behind us, looking worried.

I want to soothe her anxiety away. My broken bones will eventually heal. It’s my heart that won’t stop bleeding for her.

My eyes open up to a familiar ceiling. Suppressing a yawn, I look all around me.

The room is bright with shafts of sunshine streaming in through the clear glass windows. Soft snoozing sounds come from my left, telling me that Julian is still fast asleep.

Turning on my side, I stare up at him.

Julian is propped against a mountain of pillows. Since lying down hurts his ribs, it’s the only position he’s comfortable sleeping in at the moment.

Sitting up, I gently caress his soft silvery strands. Dark patches mar his pale skin. There are unhealed bruises under his eyes. He’s been beaten up mercilessly and it’d take weeks for him to fully heal.

Hurt and anger crash inside me as I make a note of every injury marring his beautiful face.

Callahan’s the one who’s responsible for hurting him. Hatred and rage course through me and it’s pure torment to swallow them like bitter poison.

He hurt my mates and killed so many loyal soldiers. I think of the young men I’d often seen marching or practicing drills. Most of them were new recruits and undergoing training. They hadn’t been prepared to face such an attack.

Guilt stabs at me. I was the reason behind so many deaths and injuries.

While it’s been the greatest gift to have found my mates, being an omega sucks. My instincts render me incapable of disobeying an alpha’s direct command. It’s a weakness that seems almost impossible to overcome.

Present society forbade alphas from coercing betas and omegas into submission against their will.

Nox Callahan, of course, doesn’t care about such etiquettes or rules. He still firmly believes in ideas that originated during a darker age of our history.

Centuries ago, alphas were treated as royalty. Betas were mere second-class citizens meant to serve the elites. Omegas were seen as pretty, delicate dolls who were only meant to be toyed with. Needless to say, they were treated worse than slaves.

Thankfully, not every alpha leader agreed with such ideas.

Wars were fought to topple the ideologies that kept the majority of the population under oppression. Packs like the Solveigs were at the forefront of these rebellions and helped bring in a revolution that transformed our society and brought equal rights for everyone.

We can never let someone like Nox Callahan continue to hold on to power. He has been taking advantage of his position to create a shadow organization that’s creating chaos and unrest in our peaceful society.

Callahan has been clever enough to hide his trace but I know the truth now.

I don’t know how but Iwillgather the evidence Caleb and the others need to punish him.

Fueled by another surge of rage, I climb off the bed and walk outside the room.

I’m still wearing the dress the clinic loaned me last night. Needing a shower and a change of clothes, I make my way toward the attic.

The familiar hallways of the mansion feel like home now. I breathe deeply, soaking in my surroundings.

Reaching the attic, I push open the door and walk in.

Bright sunshine filters in through a window, lighting up the nook where my bed stands. A smile comes onto my lips. It feels good to come back to my nest.

I want to curl up under the sheets and read a book on my Kindle but resist the temptation. Caleb, Damon, and Raiden looked thoroughly exhausted last night. I’m sure they’re working long hours and barely getting the time to look after themselves.
