Page 36 of Knot my Alphas

Dr. Lawson looks thoughtful for a moment.

“There are certain drugs that have been developed for beta subjects,” she says in a low, hesitant tone. “They’re mostly administered during times of war. If there’s a likelihood of being captured by the enemy, betas take a dose of the drugs that help them reject an alpha’s command. This way they can’t be manipulated into giving up sensitive information. I’m not too sure about their effect on an omega though.”

“That’s good enough,” I say. “At least, it’s a start! Can you prescribe me some?”

Dr. Lawson chuckles. “The use of such drugs is highly controlled by the military,” she says. “You won’t find them in a regular drugstore. I suggest you talk about it with your mates. They’ll be better equipped to help you. However...” Her expression turns grim. “I don’t think you should be experimenting with any kind of drugs until your natural heat subsides.”

“Oh. Will these drugs affect my hormones?”

Dr. Lawson shakes her head. “These drugs act like alcohol. They affect parts of the brain instead of your hormones. So, you’ll respond differently when you’re under their influence.” She calmly meets my desperate gaze. “You must be careful, Iris. These drugs are still undergoing tests. Don’t jeopardize your health by experimenting with them.”

“I might not have a choice,” I say in a bitter voice.

“Can you wait until your heat subsides?”

“I’m not too sure.”

“It won’t be long now. Maybe another month or so,” she says. “You need to make sure you eat plenty of protein-rich foods to gain back your strength. It’s important to be healthy before your first heat.”

I give a nod. “I’ll do that. So...can I go back home tonight?”

“It’s more convenient to stay here. We have people to look after your every need.”

I shake my head. “It’s urgent,” I say in a grim tone. “You could even say that innocent lives depend on it. Caleb and the others have to know what I’ve discovered.”

She lets out a sigh. “Fine, omega. Have it your way but if your mates come back here with you again, I’m kicking their asses. And yours.”

I instantly wish I could be as unapologetically strong as her while facing Callahan.

Female alphas are as rare as male omegas. Gifted with enhanced physical stamina and mental agility, they’re among the most elite warriors in military packs. It’s a surprise to see one who’s decided to pursue a career in medicine.

“Do you know what happened to my clothes?” I ask.

“You weren’t wearing much when they brought you in,” she says. “But if there was anything, it’d be kept inside that cabinet.” She gestures toward a tiny closet in the corner.

I’m about to climb off the bed but she stops me.

“I’ll get it for you.” Dr. Lawson heads toward the wardrobe, opens it, and brings out a folded shirt.

Taking it from her, I bring it to my face and inhale deeply.

Damon’s sweet smoky fragrance still lingers in the fabric.

“You should wear some more clothes,” Dr. Lawson says with a disapproving frown. “It’s cold outside.”

“Sure.”

“I’ll go speak to Alpha Raiden. In the meantime, I’ll ask one of the nurses to get you some proper clothes.”

“Thanks, Dr. Lawson,” I say as pure gratitude washes over me. “This is the second time you’ve saved my life.”

“Well, that’s my job.” Her lips curve into another grin. “And it’s your job to stay safe.” Reaching forward, she squeezes my shoulder and starts unhooking the IV drip and other wires from my arms.

She leaves after making sure I’m truly well enough to leave the clinic.

Making sure the door is closed, I search the front pocket of the shirt and bring out the photograph I’d stolen from one of the photo frames in Callahan’s manor.

Under the bright lights of the room, I can clearly see the woman in the photograph. She resembles me closely but there are subtle differences between our features, especially our eyes.
