“We were attacked by the Black Widow,” Damon says in a barely-controlled voice. His rage is so heavy that I can feel it pulsating in my very veins. “They killed our men, hurt Julian, and stole Iris.”

My shock is mirrored in Raiden’s glass-blue eyes.

“They stole Iris?” Raiden asks in a choked voice. “How? What were you doing? Where the hell were you?”

“I was fighting the army they sent to distract us,” Damon says. “I used a missile launcher to take down a chopper but that wasn’t the end of it all. There was a second one that was hiding on the roof of our mansion. They entered the house while I was battling their horde outside.”

Choppers, missile launchers...It’s difficult to comprehend the magnitude of the attack the Black Widow launched on our estate. “How could this happen?” I ask in a strangled voice.

“Get a grip, Caleb,” Damon says in a tight voice. “You can’t start panicking. Iris needs us right now. We need to stay calm and decide what we do next.”

“Julian...” A shaky whisper escapes me. “How hurt is he?”

“He’s been badly beaten up,” Damon says in a grim tone.

“Put him on the phone.”

“I can’t,” Damon says in an anguished voice. “He’s passed out right now but he’s going to be okay.”

My heart squeezes painfully. I can only imagine how much they hurt him that he’s lost all consciousness.

“I’ll stay with Julian,” says Damon. “Someone will patch up his wounds as soon as medical services arrive. It’s Iris that I’m worried about. Those bastards could’ve taken her anywhere by now.”

“The bracelet,” Raiden says, staring at me. “Did you implant the tracking chip inside it before giving it to Iris?”

“Yeah.”

“Thank fuck,” Damon breathes. “You can check the location on your phone, then.”

“Do it right now,” Raiden urges. “Find out where they’ve taken her.”

I’m secretly glad of my brothers’ company. Their instructions are easing my panic and helping me focus on what’s important right now.

Picking up my phone, I navigate to the app that allows the golden bracelet to be tracked. As long as Iris is wearing it, we’ll be able to locate her.

The app opens up and shows a glowing red dot that’s come to rest at a location that’s close by. My brows knit together as I drag my fingers across the screen, enlarging the map.

“Caleb?” Raiden urges.

“Hold on,” I say, taking a closer look at my phone’s screen. “I see her. She’s at Fort Callahan.”

“Did you say ‘Callahan’?” Damon’s voice demands.

“Yeah,” I say, staring at the glowing red dot.

Confusion flickers through Raiden’s eyes. “Why the fuck does that asshole have her?”

“Are you sure it was the Black Widow who attacked us?” I ask, thinking about the threats Callahan made to us that morning.

“The men who attacked us wore the Widow’s mark,” Damon says. “There’s no mistaking them.”

“What if Callahan came by to talk to us about Iris?” I say, trying to make sense of everything. “He entered the house when the attack began and maybe, helped Iris escape?”

“I’d have known if he came to our gates,” Damon barks. “Someone would’ve fucking informed me. Instead, I was jerked awake by grenade blasts and gunshots.”

“You went to bed that early?” Raiden asks.

“All three of us had been in bed,” says Damon. “I took them into the surveillance room before leaving. Julian had been helping me for a while.”
