My eyes close in momentary relief.
Callahan’s dominance-filled commands do not affect him, thanks to the pills Raiden got for us but he’s still playing along.
It’s time I played my part too.
“Julian, don’t go!” I say, adding a sliver of urgency in my voice.
“Get going,” Callahan commands, focusing his attention on Julian. “Don’t tell anyone about Iris or me. Act like you don’t know where she is.”
I give a subtle nod toward him while Callahan is distracted.
Julian keeps his enraged expression and walks toward the mansion.
“You’ll not get away this time,” I say, meeting Callahan’s dark gaze. “There are way too many people here. You can’t touch me today.”
“Is that so, Rose?” he says, moving beside me. “Come now, my darling. Walk with me.”
His command slides over my skin but doesn’t sink beneath it. My breathing stays normal, telling me that his dominance is having no effect on me.
Still, I pretend to be affected by him.
I start walking alongside him.
“Good girl,” Callahan croons. “I’ll make sure not to let you escape this time. Iwillhave you today.”
Despite my bravery, a sliver of fear flows through me. What if I fail to confront him the way I’ve been imagining in my head? What if I’m not strong enough to fight him?
Fisting my hands at my side, I drown the doubts running through my mind.
“Walk in with me,” he says, continuing to attack me with his dominance. “Don’t speak or look at anyone. I won’t be happy if anyone interrupts me today.”
“I hate you,” I say, obeying him and acting like I’m under his spell.
Callahan wounds his arm around my waist and walks beside me. Anyone looking at us would think we’re friends.
This is it. The moment I’ve been feverishly waiting for the past several weeks. I’ll finally confront the man who murdered my parents.
The fear and anxiety I’d felt earlier ebbs away, leaving my mind clear and focused.
This is going to bemyday.

We enter the entrance hall that’s crowded with our soldiers and guests from other packs. Callahan slips his arm around my waist, leading me through the throng.
I feel the weight of people’s gaze on me.
Trainees and other officers from Solveig Pack are already well-acquainted with me by now. They’ve all seen me jogging and training on the grounds at all odd hours of the day. They’re all aware of my identity as their captains’ mate.
“They don’t like the way you’re standing so close to me,” I say. “It’s better you keep your distance from me.”
Callahan smirks. “You’re an unclaimed omega, Rose. It’s fine for you to be close to an alpha who deserves you more than those Solveig pups.”
“I belong to Caleb and his brothers,” I say, continuing to walk with the asshole. “They’re my soul mates.”
“I’ll make sure to erase those delusions,” he says in a cold voice that grates against my nerves. “I’m your true master. This time, I’ll make sure you become mine.”
