“He’s an alpha, isn’t he?” Julian asks as an unusually serious expression comes over him.
“He is,” Caleb says.
“Does he have to come tomorrow?” Raiden asks. “It’s going to be a hella stressful day for all of us. Wouldn’t it be better if you met him some other day?”
“Yeah,” Caleb agrees. “Meet him some other day.”
“Or don’t meet him at all,” Julian mutters.
I notice a strange emotion coming over my mates. They don’t look happy with my request.
A sliver of guilt washes over me. I didn’t do anything wrong but the omega in me hates seeing the disappointed look on their faces.
Damon stirs and slowly sits up. His fingers rake through the long length of his wild crimson strands as he stares at his brothers.
With a sudden move, he grabs a cushion and hurls it at Caleb.
The pillow hits Caleb squarely in the head, bounces off, and hits Julian in the face.
“What the hell?” Julian shouts, throwing the cushion back at Damon.
“You guys are being a bunch of jealous, possessive a-holes,” Damon says in a growly voice. “Can’t you see it’s hurting my wildcat? She never asks for anything. She’s always here for us. Why is it so difficult for you to accept that she’s had a life outside of us? Does she need to sacrifice her entire past just because she’s our mate?”
“That’s not what I meant,” Caleb mutters, looking away.
“Yeah, I only said...” Julian’s voice goes quiet as he pouts.
“We just want to protect her,” Raiden murmurs, looking guilty and uncomfortable.
“This is your home too,” Damon says in a gruff voice as he turns toward me. “You can invite whoever you want.”
Warmth washes over me. A smile spreads on my lips as I pounce on him, wrapping my arms around his massive shoulders.
“Thank you for understanding,” I say in a muffled voice as I bury my face in his chest. “Ethan has been my only true friend all these years and I don’t want to lose his friendship. He’s a really good guy. He’ll never hurt me or the people I love.”
“Your friend is welcome here,” he says in a low, growly voice. Tightening his arms around me, he whispers, “But if he touches you, Wildcat, I’ll be ripping his fingers off one by one.”
He lets go and grins at me, his amber eyes shining with suppressed madness. Smacking a wet kiss on my cheek, he climbs off the bed and joins Raiden.
I stare as the three Solveig brothers leave the room together.
They’re all a bunch of psycho alphas. But they’re mine, I think as a smile blossoms on my lips.
It takes a moment for my logical brain to decipher Caleb, Damon, and Raiden’s sudden meanness. They weren’t trying to hurt me but were failing to contain their jealousy.
“I’m sorry,” Julian says with a huff as he climbs up beside me. “I hate anyone having a claim over you.”
“Ethan has been my best friend for years,” I say, wanting to soothe his jealousy. “If something were to happen between us, it’d have happened a long time ago.”
“Maybe you were clueless about his feelings,” he says, lying down beside me and resting his head on my lap. “This is actually quite nice. Now, rub my head like you were doing with Damon.”
A chuckle escapes me. My legs are starting to go numb but I don’t have the heart to tell him to move away. Reaching out, I start caressing his ash-blonde strands.
“You don’t have to worry about Ethan,” I tell him as he closes his eyes. “We’ve always been friends and we’ll always remain friends.”
“Call me selfish but I want you asmybest friend.”
“You’re my mate,” I say, leaning down to peck his luscious lips. “You’re already my lifelong bestie.”
