Damon is quick enough to dodge the attack. Dancing out of the way, he laughs and goads Julian into catching him.
They soon get into a chasing game.
Damon overturns chairs as he runs out of Julian’s reach.
“Stop right there!” Julian shouts as he hurls a frying pan at Damon.
Damon dodges it but the soaking, wet pan hits a wall, leaving a large crack on the surface.
Laughter bubbles out of me as I watch them make a mess of the kitchen. Surprise flickers through me as unrestrained guffaws and chuckles escape me. I can’t remember the last time I laughed like this.
“Cut it out!” Caleb’s roar suddenly has everyone coming to a halt. “Mom and Dad will be coming over today and you want them to see a big mess?”
Julian and Damon immediately go still while a new panic grips me. All my laughter disappears as I stare at Caleb.
“Your parents are coming over?” I ask. “Today?”
“Yeah,” he says in a gentler tone. “I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to tell you yet.”
“Would they want to see me?”
“Of course,” says Caleb, moving over to me and wrapping his arms around me in a hug. “They both want to meet our mate.”
“What if they don’t like me?” I ask.
“They’ll love you,” he says, kissing my lips. Pressing onto my shoulders, he steers toward the dining table. “Come on. Let’s eat breakfast.”
Damon, Raiden, and Julian come to join us at the table.
“Does your dad have any idea about Callahan?” I ask as Raiden serves me a stack of pancakes.
“No,” Caleb replies. “He has no idea that Callahan is responsible for the attack on our home.”
“He doesn’t even know he kidnapped you,” says Damon, looking angry.
“We don’t want to make any claims before gathering solid evidence against Callahan,” says Caleb. “Besides, it’s best to build our case without alerting him. We want him in our net before he knows what we’re up to.”
Raiden pushes a plate of pancakes toward me and offers me a warm smile. “It’s going to be okay,” he says. “Just relax.”
I nod and dig into my food but deep inside, I can’t stop worrying.
My sister was the one who garnered everyone’s attention and adoration. I was used to staying in the background most of my life. No one ever cared enough to ask me anything, making it easy for me to blend in with my surroundings.
The food is delicious but I’m unable to eat much as my stomach churns with worry.
Julian grabs my hand under the table and places it on his knee.
“Gerald is a decent man,” he says in a lowered voice so only I can hear him. “He likes people who’re down-to-earth and loyal, so you’ll be fine with him. Besides, I’ll be right by your side.”
A small smile teases the corners of my lips as relief spreads through me. Resting my head on his shoulder, I watch Caleb, Damon, and Raiden enjoying their meal.
I shouldn’t let stupid things worry me. Nothing matters more than having my mates all together again.
Feeling better, I munch on a bacon strip.Everything’s going to be okay, I say to myself as hope washes over me.
