Leaning away, I bend down and land a punch on the dummy’s inner thigh. If it had a ball sack, it’d be screaming in pain.

Raiden moves away, allowing me to vent my pent-up frustration.

My body soon warms up and I’m kicking and punching like a maniac, making sure to hit the target at a higher speed.

“I can’t keep watching this,” I hear Julian moaning. “She’s constantly hitting the dummy in the balls.”

“She’s a clever girl,” Raiden says with a hint of pride in his voice. “She’s found the spot that’d destroy any predator.”

“Ugh! I’m leaving,” Julian moans, standing up. “My balls already want to crawl up my stomach and disappear. I can’t watch her breaking that thing apart.”

A snort escapes me as I stop and watch him limping out of the gym.

“Don’t leave me behind!” Raiden calls out to him. Smiling awkwardly, he turns toward me. “You don’t want me around, do you?”

I chuckle at the pleading look on his face. “It’s fine. I can practice on my own. Also, thank you. I’ll make good use of the gym.”

He comes toward me and pecks my lips. “It’s all yours, babe.”

My smile broadens as I watch him jog out of the room. Feeling much better than before, I go back to practicing on the dummy, secretly hoping I really break it apart.

A savage grin comes onto my lips as I limp down the corridor. It’s been a pure pleasure to see Iris training herself to shatter Callahan’s balls to dust.

“Hey, Jules! Wait up!” Raiden’s voice gives me pause.

Turning around, I see him jogging toward me.

“What’s up?” I ask, cracking a grin. “I thought you were enjoying watching her bust some dummy’s non-existent balls.”

His grim expression doesn’t change. “I’m glad it’s enough to distract her.”

Surprise flickers through me. “What do you mean?”

“I spoke to her last night,” he says. “The painting we saw in Callahan’s manor truly belonged to her real parents.”

“Iris resembles her mom closely,” I say with a nod. “That’s how Callahan knew who she was the moment he laid eyes on her. I wish we hadn’t taken her to that stupid party. It’s the whole reason he’s got his target set on her.”

“I know,” Raiden says, looking angry. “So, is it true he killed her real parents?”

A heavy sigh escapes me. “I believe so.”

“Does Caleb and Damon know about this?”

“I haven’t said anything to them yet,” I say. “You guys never stick around long enough for any serious conversation. Iris may have told them like she told you.”

“Iris has been suppressing a lot of pain,” he says, looking worried. “She’s going out of her way to look after us but has no outlet for her own grief. She broke down last night and I hated seeing her in so much pain.”

“I try to talk to her but don’t push her,” I say. “She likes staying busy. It’s her way of coping with the mountain of shit that’s been handed to her since the day she stepped into this place.”

“I know.” A frustrated look comes over him. “I wish we could spend one normal fucking day with each other.”

“Callahan’s still out there,” I say, meeting his gaze. “I’ve been looking into his past while Iris stays obsessed with trying to find out what she can about her real family.”

“Did you find anything interesting?”
