“Dr. Lawson said there are drugs that help betas keep their will against an enemy alpha,” I say slowly. “She said they’re heavily monitored by the military and only accessible to higher officials.”
“Are you talking about the B-7 and O-11 series of drugs,” Julian asks.
“I don’t know what they’re called,” I reply. “Dr. Lawson wasn’t very open when she talked about them.”
Raiden gives a grim nod. “These drugs aren’t available to the public because they’re still being developed and tested. No responsible doctor would advise a patient into taking them.”
“But I need them,” I say in an urgent tone. “It’s the only thing that can help me fight Callahan.”
“Some betas have horrible reactions to them,” says Julian. “That’s the reason they’re used during emergency situations only.”
“Wouldn’tyouwant to keep some of that stuff on you?”
A thoughtful look comes over him. “I haven’t considered it,” he says slowly. “I’ve never faced an alpha who compelled me into doing something I didn’t want to. Callahan has been the only asshole who blatantly broke all civil boundaries.”
“It’s probably because you had Raiden and his brothers hovering around you all the time,” I say with a pout. “No one dared to get close to you.”
A wolfish grin lifts the corners of Raiden’s lips.
“Fine, then,” Julian mutters, looking serious. “I want some of that stuff too. It’s better to take precautions while we deal with Callahan.”
“You guys should test it out first,” Raiden says. “There’s no point in poisoning yourself at a critical moment.”
“Yes!” I cheer, jumping to my feet. “Thank you!”
Raiden chuckles. “Thank me later. We still need to check whether the drug works on you.”
Extending my arms upward, I stretch sideways. “How about we go outside and practice some moves?”
“How about we do it indoors?” says Raiden.
“In the entrance hall? What if we knock off a vase or a statue?”
Julian chuckles. “He’s talking about our indoor gym.”
“Oh...”
“You didn’t know we have one?” Julian guesses with a knowing look.
“You guys have a very huge house,” I say defensively. “Besides, it’s rude to poke and pry in other people’s houses.”
Raiden gets to his feet and pulls me into a sudden hug. “This is your home now, Iris,” he says in a low, deep voice that reverberates through me. “You’re free to go anywhere you like. You’re even welcome to come into my bedroom anytime you feel like it.”
“I’d like that,” I say, burying my face in his chest. “You have so many beautiful paintings in your room.”
“I wish you’d learn to paint portraits,” Julian says, hauling himself off his chair.
Raiden chuckles as he steps away. “You just want me to paint your nudes, don’t you?”
Julian winks.
The gesture has my heart racing in my chest.
My dirty mind immediately conjures up a scene of a naked Julian lounging among silken sheets while Raiden paints him on a canvas. And, of course, he’s painting shirtless!
I blink, chasing away the delicious mental image.
“Will you guys give me two minutes?” I ask. “I’ll go change and meet you guys here.”
