I’m desperately praying for him to be safe. He’s the only one who can protect Julian while Caleb and Raiden are away.

I think of all the soldiers who’re still fighting the horde Callahan unleashed on them. Even though I didn’t witness the attacks happening in the grounds, the sound of blasts and gunshots shaking the mansion’s walls was enough to paint a horrific battle image in my mind.

Callahan staged the brutal attack to kidnap me. His insanity is going to cost the lives of so many good, loyal soldiers. How can someone as insignificant as me be worth it all?

Darling, I’ll tell you a secret, Callahan’s voice whispers in my mind.Iamthe Black Widow.

I glance toward the man at my side.

He’s the leader of the Black Widow. He cleverly concealed his identity by staying in the military. His powerful position has protected him so well that even the Solveig brothers never suspected him.

My mind goes back to the day when Raiden told me about Damon’s past.

Damon surrendered to the terrorists in exchange for the lives of all the hostages. He was captured and brutally tortured for months before being rescued.

Hatred, like I’ve never felt before, surges through me. I hold onto the blinding rage as it’s the only thing that keeps my panic at bay.

My stomach suddenly swoops. A second later, I realize the chopper has started descending toward a cluster of hills in the distance.

My fingers clutch onto Damon’s shirt. I take deep breaths, willing my mind to stay strong against Callahan’s dominance. One way or another Iwillescape from his clutches.

Until then, I’m going to find out everything I can about this asshole.

Caleb is going to need as much proof as possible to prove Callahan’s connection to the Black Widow. It’s the only way we can bring him to justice and dismantle the army he’s created for his selfish gain.

I spot the tops of a building that’s rising over the tree tops surrounding it. Soon, the silhouette of a manor materializes before me as the chopper flies lower.

“We’re home,” Callahan says. A smug grin twists his face as he stares at me.

I stay silent in a bid to preserve my strength and stamina.

Callahan may think he’s carrying his prey inside his cave but he has no idea who he’s dealing with. I may have the body of an omega but my mind is that of a beta who’s struggled her entire life.

Unlike most omegas, my life hasn’t been a bed of roses. Thorns pricked me every step of the way as I grew up. He won’t break me so easily.

The chopper touches the ground with a thud that jerks me forward. Callahan takes off his safety belt and proceeds to loosen mine.

I hold my breath, not wanting to breathe in his disgusting scent.

“You need to be cleaned up,” he says, skimming his nose along my neck. “You still stink of them.”

My fingers tighten on Damon’s shirt.

“It’s time to go,” he says. “Step through there.” Holding my arm in a strong grip, he pulls me off my seat.

I play along, allowing him to help me climb out of the chopper.

A cold breeze whips past me, blowing my hair backward. I shiver and stare all around me.

The manor before me is a dark granite monstrosity, its stones blacker than the inky night sky. The structure looks ancient and reminds me of an era when alphas ruled the world with an iron grip.

The grounds are dark and hidden under a blanket of shadows.

I think of Solveig estate and its well-lit surroundings. Massive floodlights surround the area, keeping it illuminated like a stadium. Even late at night, you can see soldiers patrolling the grounds or going through drill practice.

My heart squeezes with nostalgia. It’s barely been an hour since I left Solveig estate and I’m already missing it.

“Are you impressed, my rose?” Callahan asks, placing his hand on my waist. “This used to be a fort. Guards and soldiers patrolled every corner. They even fought historic battles here.”
