“Yes, Dad.”
Gerald exhales a heavy breath. “That’s all that matters.”
“I hope Damon’s okay,” Julian says, looking anxious.
“Damon?” Gerald looks alert at once. “Where is he right now?”
“Let me call him,” says Caleb and takes his phone out.
Curiosity swirls in Gerald’s eyes as he stares at his son. I’m sure he’s bursting with questions. Thankfully, he’s reading the urgency of the situation and allowing Caleb to take the lead.
“Hey,” Damon’s voice sounds from the phone.
Relief flickers through me the moment I hear his voice.
“Did you catch up to them?” Caleb asks.
“No,” he replies with a hint of disappointment in his voice. “The car they used when they left the estate was abandoned on the side of the road. Someone else must’ve picked them up.”
“Get back immediately,” says Caleb. “I don’t want you straying away from home without proper protection.”
“What about Mom? Is she okay?”
“Dad called for Dr. Lafayette.”
“Shit! He knows?”
“Not everything,” says Caleb, glancing at his father. “He’s worried about her. We all are. Come home right away so we don’t have to worry about you too.”
“Stop nagging!”
“Damon,” he growls. “Come home.”
“Fine,” Damon huffs and hangs up the call.
I follow Caleb and Julian as they move up the stairs.
Relief floods through me as I realize that everyone’s safe. Callahan concocted a plan that could’ve ended up with him kidnapping me again and hurting innocent kids.
Some innocents still got hurt, my mind whispers, reminding me of the teachers who died during the attack on the school.
Hatred courses through me. Callahan has left so much destruction in his wake that it’s nearly impossible to count or measure. He might think he’s gotten away once again but he’s wrong.
We have enough proof against him to alert the entire military. His shadow army won’t breed in the dark anymore. I’m going to drag them into the light and have them punished so they can never hurt others again.
“You have a lot to explain, Son,” Gerald says in a deep, grim tone. “I want to know everything that’s been going on here. We’ll talk as soon as your mom feels better.”
Caleb nods. “Sure, Dad. We have things to tell you as well.”
“Hey, are you okay?” Julian asks, wrapping an arm around my shoulders and drawing me closer against him.
I almost say ‘yes’ but something makes me pause. A heat wave ripples through me, making me breathe in sharply. My lower abdomen contracts, causing a painful spasm to spike through me.
A groan escapes me as I clutch my lower belly.
“Iris?” Julian’s whisper against my ear sends another wave of heat through me. My core starts throbbing, forcing me to press my thighs together. Julian’s scent aggravates my sudden lust, urging me to kiss him right there.
I feel my panties getting soaked through. Confusion flickers through me as I try to understand the cause of my sudden arousal. We were just discussing something very serious and here I am, panting like someone gave me a massive orgasm.
