I roll my eyes, but he cups my face.
“I trust you and your decisions. You are my queen and my lover, no matter what. She took my only family, and I’ll be damned if she touches you or my friends.”
My eyes water as I cup his cheeks. “I’m so scared.”
“Me too, baby.” He pulls me back against his chest, and we sit like that even as people come and go. We have moments of quietness, and I even sleep a little more. When I wake, some of my other guys are in the room.
The library door opens, and Ryker comes in. “There’s a call for you.”
It takes me a moment to realize he is talking to me. I stand up, tripping over Jigsaw. He groans in some type of pain as Hazen giggles at him. I take the phone and press it to my ear. “Agnus?”
“Close, I guess. Who is Agnus?” a female voice says. I rack my brain to where I’ve heard her voice before, but I come up short.
“Who is this?”
“I wanted to let you know that if the Gates of Hell open to Earth, I have a pretty decent team that won’t let many of them pass.”
“Tell her! Tell her what I said,” a voice shouts in the background.
“Let’s hope it doesn’t get that far. Who are you?”
“My name is Buffy, the demon hunter. Hopefully, we don’t meet as that would be tragic, but I hope we do, as you are my queen.” I can practically hear her smile.
“Are you a demon yourself?”
“No. A seer of all things evil.”
The voice in the back shouts again. “Will you fucking tell her what I saw?”
My brows pull as I look up at Ryker.
“Opal, my friend, said Fenric is rooting for you, and if you get scared, have Hazen give you the action figure he left in his dorm room.” Buffy sighs.
My blood runs cold as I listen to this.
“Tell her the room number!” Opal, I’m assuming, says, “Room 225!”
“Do you want to fucking talk to her?”
“Yes,” Opal says with some struggle. “Hello, Demon Queen. I just want to say I’m Opal. I’m a seer in a different way than Buff. I see the dead. Fenric just wanted me to tell you that he loves you and good luck.”
“Thanks,” I whisper, wondering what the fuck she is going on about.
“You’re welcome. Good luck!” The phone hangs up.
“Where did you find these people?” I ask, handing over the phone.
“Tip hotline. They kept calling. Who was it?” Ryker asks.
“Two seers, one named Buffy and the other Opal.” I look at Hazen. “Opal said that… if I get scared, Fen left his figurine in your room.”
Hazen frowns, and his face twists in realization. “He… he did leave one in my room, but no one knew about that because I wanted to keep it. Holy fuck.”
My thoughts keep going back to the girl that was on the phone. I wish I could talk to her more and learn what else she knew. Hazen swears up and down that no one, not even Jigsaw, has been in that room after Fen, and no one knew it was there. Some humans are gifted with powers, and some of those powers are seeing the dead.
The moment I see the rest of my men walk through the front door, I move to hug them. Ledger scoops me up, and I wrap my limbs around him. “Hey, baby. Are you okay?”
I just nod.
