I press my palm onto the floor and try to lift myself. Pain radiates from my ribs, causing me to drop under my weight.
“Aw… is the princess—no, sorry—the queen hurt? I can put you out of your misery quickly.”
Was he sent to kill me?
Electricity and the sound of bones snapping fill the air. I instantly know who it is as he charges the vampire.
Draco jumps back as Hazen’s hellhound separates us. “What a bother. Take him out.”
Three vampires show up right in front of Hazen out of thin air. They begin their attack, and Hazen seems to be able to hold his weight under them, flinging the first two that charge across the room.
The third grabs Hazen by the neck, and Hazen lets out an electrical burst that makes all the hair on my body stand up. The vampire stiffens and lets go, barely hurt.
Hands grab my body, making me jolt. My mind has been on Hazen and if he could handle the men. I have faith in my hellhound, but I know how tricky these vampires can be, especially with hellhounds.
Ryker lifts me to my feet and makes eye contact with Draco. “Leave before anyone gets hurt.”
Draco scoffs. “This doesn’t involve you, King. Why don’t you just go back to your other girl? She’s waiting for you.” He disappears, reappearing in front of us. He has Thorne’s powers. A yelp escapes me as he grabs hold of Ryker and disappears before I can even reach for him.
My heart pounds in my ears, and Hazen growls, backing his body against mine. I wish I could feel the comforts of his electricity, but with Hell’s flames on my body, I can’t anymore.
Where is he? Where’s my Ryker? Where are my men? “Jigsaw? Ledger?” I know Ledger was in the hall when I rushed to the conference room to warn them that Draco and his men were coming.
Hazen sticks close to me, and I grab his side as he leads me through the massive cloud of dust. Within seconds, he finds Ledger stuck under part of the ceiling.
I move to him, grabbing his face, which wakes him up.
“Wha—Ah!” He let out a painful shout, trying to push on the rubble.
My fingers brush the dirt from his face and hair. “I got you. I got you.”
He hisses in pain, looking up at me.
“Hazen,” I call, moving around Ledger. I place my hand under the rubble and pull as hard as possible. Hazen helps a bit, lifting it cleanly off Ledger. I loosened it.
Ledger moves back but barely uses his one ankle with a purple bruise already forming. I go to reach for it. “I’m okay,” he says. “Where’s Jigsaw and Ryker?”
The conference room is filled with a thick dust cloud that burns my eyes when I try to see through it. I shake my head. I honestly don’t know, and that’s what fucking sucks.
Hazen turns his attention to the dust, sensing someone coming. Draco appears through the cloud without my pink-haired fae man. My heart hits the pit of my stomach. Did he kill him? He tilts his head, flicking his hand, and more debris flies at us.
“What the fuck kind of crack is this dude on?!” Ledger shouts, scrambling to his feet.
“He sucked his brother’s vampire blood. They… I don’t know what happened. He got his powers because Thorne is stronger than any other vampire… Draco, is this now.”
He steps closer, and Hazen lunges at him. With a flick of his hand, Hazen hits the wall with a hard thud.
“Hazen!” I shout, which hurts my ribs. I know he is okay from what I can tell from our short bond, but I know it has to hurt him.
Ledger steps between Draco and me. Draco rolls his eyes, about to flick his hands again. No! No more of my men getting hurt. I let out a scream that makes fire move across my body—a ring of flames sprouts around Hazen, Ledger, and me.
Draco freezes before laughing. “These small ass flames?” But the moment his hand passes the circle, he burns. With a high-pitched scream, he pulls back, and his black eyes narrow on me. “You fucking—”
Another crash has the castle shifting and more debris flying. My head whips around, grabbing Ledger to steady myself.
“Khazon,” Ledger whispers.
And sure enough, the Angel of Death flies into the room. Khazon… didn’t even look like himself anymore. His wings spread out behind him. With a few powerful swipes, all the dust clears from the air, making it easier to see.
