His words were full of pain, and she was reminded that she wasn’t the only one that had been dreaming of them together and wishing for a life.
She wasn’t the only one that had been waiting.
“Okay,” she whispered.
“Promise me.” He started thrusting again.
“I promise.”
“Say it again,” he whispered, his head falling forward to her neck, where she could feel his breaths deepening, as if he was losing the battle.
“I promise,” she whispered against him as he moved faster, and his hands fisted the sheets next to her head. Sliding one hand down his back, she felt his muscles flex under her fingers as he worked to take them both to the edge.
“I love you.” The words that she had been holding back fell from her lips.
He jolted, his head rearing back as his eyes met hers, and his hips paused. A pained look crossed his face before he dropped his head, and he started thrusting again.
Harder.
“Fuck,” he moaned as she felt him tip over. Felt his body shake above hers, his come heating her from the inside as his body heated her from the outside.
“Tell me again.” The growl in his voice made her shiver.
Apparently, an orgasm didn’t make him any less bossy.
“I love you.”
He kissed up the side of her neck, a last little tremor working through both of them as he got to her ear. Kissing the shell, he whispered, “I love you too, Mercy.”
Tears instantly flooded her eyes.
Those were words that she never thought she would ever hear.
Those were words that she had never thought she was worthy of.
“Shh,” he whispered as his movements slowed.
“Garrett,” she sobbed, and he nuzzled her neck.
“I love you, Mercy.” She sobbed as he thrust once more.
“I love you, little one.” And this time, the words didn’t hurt her soul.
This time, they healed it.
Chapter 11
Mercy
Shewassittingbya lake when she felt him behind her.
She loved this lake. She loved the colors of the clear water and how the sun reflected off of it. She loved how peaceful it was and how the only sounds were of nature and the wind through the trees.
Garrett had shown her this little hideaway in one of their dreams before, and it was her second favorite to their little overlook.
That’s what she loved about dreaming with him.
She could go anywhere.
