I’ve been playing with the idea of buying her something new and bigger, but I like this ring. I like the meaning behind it.
The temptation to slide it onto her finger is strong, too fucking strong.
With a sigh, I close the box and return it to the nightstand.
Then, as I watch the love of my life sleep soundly on my chest, I start to plan.
CHAPTER THREE
Callie
“I love you, Angel,” Hayden whispers as his mouth kisses the hollow of my neck, over my collar bone, between my breasts… His fingers tweak my aching nipples, making me moan at the touch. I can feel the heat pool between my legs, the ache there growing stronger by the second.
I need him.
I need his touch.
I need him to satisfy this a—
An alarm starts to ring, waking me up from the dream. Letting out a groan in protest, I reach blindly across the bed until my fingers wrap around my phone, and I tap the screen to turn the annoying thing off. Sighing at the blessed quiet, I slide my hand over the sheets next to me, my eyes flying open at the coldness of them.
Home.
I’m back home.
I’ve been for the last couple of weeks.
Grabbing the hoodie I have carefully laid on the bed next to me, a new one I snatched before leaving Hayden’s apartment, I bury my face into it, inhaling his scent. It’s not as strong as it was when I got home, but it’ll have to do for a few more days, just until the Christmas Ball.
Excitement spreads through me at the thought.
I’ve been silently counting down the days until this year is done so we can finally be together.
It’s not like he asked you to move in, a skeptical part reminds me, but I push that little voice away as I get out of bed.
Being with him, loving him, was enough.
So what if my friends have slowly been figuring out their post-college lives?
There was still time.
Months.
And if he doesn’t make a move, well, I’ll just have to do it.
Grabbing the hoodie from the chair, I slip it over my PJs and head out of the room. The house is quiet as I make my way downstairs.
Nixon moved out after he and Yasmin got married, and Zane followed suit this past spring after he graduated and started working as a PT for the athletic apartment at Blairwood, asking Rei to move in with him not far from here.
A loud shriek followed by giggles comes from the kitchen as I descend the stairs. My own lips spread into a smile at the sound. I enter the kitchen, excited to get my hands on Edie since she always makes me feel better, only to come to a stop in the doorway.
Maddox is sitting in front of the high chair in which Edie is seated. Her ginger curls are pulled into two small pigtails, and she’s wearing one of the countless dresses the girls and I got her, composed and cute as hell. On the other hand, Maddox has cereal splashed all over his shirt and face.
“C’mon, Princess. Just one bite. For Daddy, yeah?” Maddox asks softly, trying to coax the toddler into eating.
I bite the inside of my cheek to stop myself from laughing out loud, my eyes meeting Alyssa’s, who’s leaning against the counter, a coffee mug clasped in her hands covering her mouth, but I can see the amusement dancing in her irises.
“You know the point of this is to get the food into the baby, not on yourself, right?” I ask as I join them.
