My eyes water. “Good. Because I love you, too. Even when you’re being a tool.”

We share a smile. I know his club nickname is because he likes to work on old cars but teasing him about being the otherkind of tool is amusing to me. The alarm on my phone beeps and we both look at it.

“Want me to come in there with you, or do you want to do this alone?”

“Come with me, please.”

Together, we go to the bathroom. Lifting the stick, I let out a sob.

“Not pregnant. Thank god.”

Zack pulls me close, hugging me tightly. I close my eyes, allowing myself to feel the peace of the moment. I decide to tell him what’s on my mind.

I say, “I think I want to go back to school. Get a business degree. I like what Arizona is doing with the strip club, and I think I can help her make it even better.”

“Sounds like a good plan.”

“And one day, once I’m finished with school, we can talk about having all the babies you want.”

“Now that’s something I’m definitely going to look forward to.” He kisses me. “Until we get to that point in our lives, we can practice, too.”

I laugh. The reality is that this relationship might not work out, but I have a good feeling about it. And my grandma always said to trust your gut.

“Well, Zack Morris. Why don’t we pick up my son and spend the day together?”

“Sounds like a plan to me, my siren.”
