“Okay.”

I walk away from him, holding my head high. Will winks at me as I pass, and I smile back. Things feel like they’re looking up, but all that goes away when I get backstage and find a pregnancy test sitting at my station.

Fuck.

I’d almost forgotten…

CHAPTER FIVE

The rest of the night goes off without a hitch. I do two more sets on the main stage, each time my gaze finding Tool in the audience. Part of me feels like I’m dancing just for him, which, according to the other girls, is dangerous. At two, I clock out and change into sweatpants and a comfy shirt. I’m tired and can’t wait to get back to the clubhouse so I can shower and sleep. I grab my bag and toss the pregnancy test in, vowing to take it when I wake up.

Tool waits for me outside, leaning against my car. He looks so handsome under the streetlight that it takes my breath away.

“Hey,” I greet him.

“Hey. Will your car be okay if we leave it for a bit?”

He motions to his bike, which is parked next to my car. I can’t stop the smile that spreads across my face. Before Tool, I’d never been on the back of a motorcycle. Something I will regret for a long time. There’s nothing quite like riding. It’s freeing and scary at the same time. Riding at night is even better, and I nod.

“Yeah, it will be fine here. Arizona has great security.”

He hands me a helmet and puts on his. Once he’s seated, I climb on behind him. He put the sissy bar on, so I’ll be comfortable. Or sosomeonewould be comfortable. The thought has me glaring at his back as we pull out of the parking lot. All anger is soon forgotten as we speed down city streets until we’re in a rural area. That’s when he really lets loose. An excited sound works its way up my throat as we soar down the road. The wind whips around us and I hear cicadas humming in the air as we pass. It’s freaking heaven. Our destination becomes clear, and Ismile. He’s taking me to the lake, where we had our first date. Well, not sure if you can call it a date, but it was where we hung out for the first time.

We ride down the road that runs next to the lake, headed toward the area where a few cabins are located. Tool’s biggest pride is the cabin he built on his own. The first time we came out here, we never made it inside. Instead, we fucked outside under the stars before going back to the clubhouse. Maybe tonight will be different. He parks next to the cabin, and I climb off first. The first time I rode, I didn’t know how to get off the bike, and it was quite comical. I’m smiling at the thought as I pull off my helmet.

“What?”

“Just thinking about the first time we came out here.” I snort. “I can’t believe I almost tipped the bike.”

“Never had someone put their leg over my head to get off before.”

We share a smile.

“Come on.”

“Oh, so I get to go inside this time?”

I’m joking, but he doesn’t laugh. I follow him up the wooden steps and wait as he unlocks the door. The lights turn on and he steps aside so I can enter first. I don’t know what I was expecting, but this isn’t it. The living room is massive, with enough seating for at least ten people. The furniture is a light leather and is placed so that it faces the main attraction—the stunning view of the lake.

Moving into the room, I notice there isn’t even a TV. The floor plan is open, so I can see the kitchen. The upper cabinets are white, and the lowers are sage green, which is my favorite shade of green. The appliances are stainless steel and look new, as if Tool hasn’t had the time to test them out yet. My favorite part is the white marble countertops with swirls of gold in them. Goingto the window, I look outside. This is truly meant to be a place to come to unwind.

“Tool, it’s beautiful.”

“Thank you.”

He motions for me to follow, and we go to the couch. I’m saved from deciding where to sit when he pulls me to the spot next to him. Out of instinct, I curl against his side. We always did fit together like two puzzle pieces.

“How have you been?” he asks as he toys with a piece of my hair.

“Good. I’m really liking the club. All the girls are nice, and I’ve already made enough money for a down payment on an apartment.”

He tenses next to me. “You’re leaving the clubhouse?”

“That’s the plan.” I turn so I can see his face. “There’s not really a reason for me to stay, and I’m sure Saint could use the room for one of the brothers or prospects.”

“Fuck the prospects.”

I laugh, but say, “It’s going to be fine. I’ll still come by the club to see the girls.”
