"You're silly."

"You're sexy as hell and Mr. Pierce isn't going to know what hit him when he gets a look at you. Screw the ditzy blondes, we've got brainy blonde right here!" she replies.

"Let's wait and see if he thinks the same way."

Shannon grins. "I knew it! You are into him."

I get up from the dressing table seat and face her. "Well, duh. Do you think I go lusting after just anyone?"

She shakes her head. "Not since—"

"Don't. Don't even. That was a huge drunken mistake you let me make!" I defend.

"Please. I was drunker than you. How was I supposed to know what you were doing? I didn't even know what I was doing."

"Aaron, if I remember correctly," I quip.

She winces.

"What's that look?" I ask.

"Nothing," she hedges.

"Uh-oh. You've got that look."

"What look?" she asks.

"The look like you didn't really lose that lovin' feeling. The look like you might still have feelings for Mr. Aaron Latham."

She blows out a breath. "I'm pretty sure you're right."

"So, what's the problem?"

Shannon gives me the stare. The one that asks me if I'm stupid. "Aaron's the problem. I'm not sure he's got any feelings."

"You blow hot and cold with him, Shan. How's he supposed to know you're really hot when you turn frigid?"

"It's saying a lot that I totally understood what you just said because it was weird."

"Hedging."

"I don't know. What if I say something and he's like, 'Uh, yeah, thanks.' Then I'm standing there looking like an asshat," she informs me.

"If you don't try, you won't ever know."

She points at me. "You should follow your own advice. Let Mr. 007 know you're interested in more than Dating 101. I mean, I can see the imaginary hearts floating over your head while you wait the last," she looks at the clock," seven minutes for him to arrive.

I finish putting the necessities in my clutch purse. "Do you think I'll need a jacket?"

"Nah. I think a wrap will be fine. Go with the silver. Complete the ensemble," she suggests.

"Good eye. It's a good thing I have you."

The doorbell rings. My eyes widen as I look to the clock.

Shannon whistles. "He's five minutes early. Serious business."

"Oh my. You answer. I'll come out in a minute or two."
