He shakes his head. “That’s not gonna happen.”
I glare. “Leave.”
He straightens his shoulders as he stares me down.
“Now,” I snarl. “I vow not to do anything interesting without you.”
“Lucky me,” Easton mutters.
Hunter glances between us, anger livid in his gaze. “I’ll be right outside.” He turns on his heel and storms from the room, the front door banging shut moments later.
“Well, this is cozy,” Easton drawls. “But I much prefer Anissa’s company.”
I smirk through my rage, biting back the need to draw my gun. “Who arranged the meeting?”
“Will it satisfy your jealousy if I say it was me?”
No. But it might ease the fury a little. “Only the truth will suffice.”
He smirks and walks to his sofa, sinking down onto the cracked leather. “I gather this means you don’t believe whatever story she told you.”
“Do I need to remind you she’s currently shackled to my bed? I don’t think she’ll appreciate you beating around the bush.”
His eyes harden. “I arranged the meeting.”
“Why?” I grate.
“I had news from her father.”
Shit. I told that old bastard to let sleeping dogs lie when he got in contact with me last week. I made it clear Nissa wasn’t ready to speak to him. And even after warning him it was in the best interests of her safety to maintain his distance, whispers still spread of how her ex-Fed father wanted to get back in the picture.
Now this?
“She didn’t know why I wanted to meet up,” he adds. “Only that it was urgent.”
“It seemed like much more than a business meeting to those watching.”
He kicks his feet up onto his coffee table. “You were watching her the whole time? You do realize you can’t trap a woman like that, right? She’s only going to fight back against it.”
I raise my palms in placation. “She’s free to leave whenever she likes.”
“As long as it’s in a body bag?”
I fall silent to tinker with his paranoia.
“You’ll kill her once you’re done with her. I fucking know it. She’ll end up in a ditch or the bottom of a barrel.”
I couldn’t do that to her. Hunter could. But I’d never give the order.
“She deserves better than you.” He crosses his arms over his chest. “So much fucking better.”
I won’t argue. “Next time you have information that concerns her, you come to me. Understood?”
“You’re not her keeper.”
“Yes, I am.” I’m the keeper of her safety. Her happiness. Her love. “Youwillstay away from her unless I sanction another reunion.”
“Or?” He raises a brow. “What are you going to do, Torian? You can’t hurt me because that will mean the end of your dark fairytale. She’d hate you forever.”
